I was checking the oil after I changed the oil today and the tip of my engine oil dipstick came off . I was wondering if it is steel to try to work it out of my drain plug? Im not worried about it getting sucked up into the oil pick-up. I just dont want to it in the pan.

Boy that stinks, but I'm not sure if I would admit to losing my tip:eek:. On a serious note, is the rest of the dip stick steel? If so happy fishing.

Its not a big job to remove the steel lower pan and look for it, about a 1 1/2 or so if i remember...if its a duramax that is...

I cannot remember but dont the drain plugs have a magnetic tip on them? If so the the peice of stick may very well already be stuck to the drain plug. You could always attach a large magnet to the bottom of the oil pan to catch it, after driving until your next oil change all you would have to do is slide the magnet over to the drain hole and the tip should follow it on the inside of the oil pan. This would be easier than pulling the pan for something that isnt going to bother the internals.

As far as I know mine wasn't magnetic when I replaced it with a Femco no spill plug.
