Has anyone noticed when the outside temp on your rearview mirror reads "ICY" that it will flash to the current temp and then go off and come back on as if it looses power?
I just noticed this today when I was traveling down the highway at about 55 mph. But when I slowed down (unsure what speed it was at) it would just flash "ICY" and then the current temp and not loose power.
Could this be some sort of way to tell you that you are going to fast for the icy conditions?

no, all three trucks that I have had have done this. I think the truck is trying to update the temp but it is taking a while. It is just telling you that it is cold out. It should quit after awhile. I don't worry about it too much unless it actually stops working or gets stuck on ICE.

The temperature display will show ICY when it is 37 degrees or below during start-up. It usually last for about a minute then return to normal mode. It is just to warn you that there may be a potential of ice.

Mine went to "ICY" today as temperatures dropped quickly as I climbed a mountain after being on the road for several hours. The temp then went to 37 degrees, then 36 degrees, and the ICY message did not return.

Yeah, mine does come on around that temp also, but it stays on the whole time I am driving the truck. It would only blink like it was loosing power and turning back on when I was at a curtain speed.
Maybe my temp gauge is learning like the tranny is, and it is just in the first grade or somthing.

Ours will alternate between "ICY" and the temp. It takes a minute for it to flash, a few seconds in between
