Dream on. I would love to get a RCSB myself but after looking at the 09 ordering info and finding that GM continues to treat the regular cab guys as second class citizens I am positive there won't be a 4.5L diesel in a RCSB for several years.

what makes you think that, as far as I can see the 4.5L will be an option anywhere the 5.3L is found? Anybody know anything about this new diesel powerplant??

What makes me think that?
The fact that for 09 I still can't order a RCSB with a 6.2L or a 6L80E. I am positive both of those drop right into any space occupied by a 5.3L/4L60E. Meanwhile all the competitors are offering RCSB trucks with their best engines/transmissions as an option. GM hasn't given any special attention to the regular cab trucks since the old 454SS.

my wife just bought a denali with the 6.2 in it. I have been a diesel guy for a while but I gotta tell you. That gas motor rocks..... gets same of better mileage than the gutless 5.3 she had in her yukon xl too.

I have never understood the short box with reg cab. I also don't get a 2wd truck but maybe thats just me. I figure if i'm going to have a truck I want to do truck things like go through the mudd and pull people out of ditches and what not.

Thats just my little rant. I would love to get my hands on one of these loaded CC short box (true 6.5' not that short short box crap!) 25 mpg's would work for me!

If you are buying a 1500 CC, I don't think you have a choice. After having one, the few less inches you get is not really noticeable.

5'8" vs 6'5" is a true short box!! :p:

The 2009 print books are avail. You can look at them via the above link. Looks like 6.2 avail. in a 1500 CC but not in a 2500.

No mention of a 4.5 being avail.

The new 1500s will be awesome with the 6.2 and 6 speed. The only reason the Tundra ever wins in a competion between the two are because of the 2 extra gears and the few extra ponies in the Tundra. Not any more though.

Not to mention the Tundra looks like it has downs! i think the Tundra is a horrable ugly truck.

Short bed is useless you might as buy a Jap truck. I want the reg cab with full size bed. I looking for a used truck there lot of people selling their trucks but it hard to find one with a 8 foot bed. I guess all the Yuppies that bought trucks to look cool not work.

whats the difference between a 8ft box with a tool box and a 6.5ft without a tool box? Nothing. you can still pull a 5th wheel with a 6.5ft box, and do pretty much anything else a 8ft box can...except fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in it perfectly. I prefer the 6.5ft over an 8ft, a CCLB would be too long imo. If it was an ext cab then 8ft box is good.

my $0.02

I don't run a tool box and none of my tools would fit in it. Put a wacker, a wet saw, shovels, rakes, other misc tools and 2 or 3 wheel barrels in a short bed. You can't put a 8 ft salter in a 6.5 foot bed. I have a little truck [Dakota] to do pickup odd items. A 6.5 bed too small to work out of.

At one point I would have agreed, but I think it comes down to location and what the terrain around you is like. For me in So Cal I need to search to find a patch of dirt and good luck finding a ditch or mud. I used my old 05' extra cab Silverado w/ 6.5 ft bed as a truck as much as anyone. I spent most of its time hauling a toy hauler to the desert or a boat to the river. It was a 2wd w/the G80 limited slip and I never got stuck in the hardpack desert or on a boat ramp. It was a great truck that did truck stuff. But as someone else mentioned trucks are for more then just hauling. I primarily use mine for towing, and in that case it doesn't matter if I have a 6.5 or 8ft bed as long as it has a hitch. But with an 8ft bed its not gonna fit in my garage but my 6.5 will. Almost everyone I know used this reason alone for getting a 6.5ft bed.

RCSB = Shorter turning radius, easier parallel parking, and, get this, a better power to weight ratio, for us hot-rod wannabes who can't afford two vehicles (or the those who don't have deep enough pockets to make a D/max dip into the low 13's in the 1/4).

Now a RCSB w/6.6 D/A would be fun
