: Better late than never I guess
Kennedy 04-17-2008, 07:09 PM In anticipation of the SoCal 7.1 cranks, we recently started the process of building 3 engines. One in Mine, one for Slowkid, and one for BMDMAX. I am having a local shop do most everything, as they are very meticulous and highly trustworthy. With any luck Brandon will be back at the track mid Summer. Nothing is expected to happen quickly on these builds. If things go well, maybe we'll build some more...
tonydduramax 04-17-2008, 07:12 PM Nice I wish I was one of the 3. good luck
BMDMAX 04-18-2008, 10:05 AM YES, YES, YES, YEEEESSSS! There, I am done for a bit. ;) Can't wait to get that puppy back on the track as it has been a tough 15 months having the truck down. :(
I hope the LMM tow truck comes in before the engine is ready too! I thought I was gonna nut up waiting on that sweet stroker kit and now I gotta wait on GM due the AAM strike!
Good things come to those who wait, at least that is what I keep telling myself! :D

I'll put mine in my 2002 for starters. I'm still not going gung-ho on the engine building thing. I think there's a lot that needs to evolve yet, but I guess we have to start somewhere. I'll look at building more once we get these out and running...

PitchBlack 04-25-2008, 07:49 PM John Any new info yet
Kennedy 04-26-2008, 11:31 AM Not really, just waiting on the cranks and caps from SoCal.
TommJr 04-26-2008, 12:55 PM What is your goal for these engines?
Daily driver w/ sled pull power?
Track racers?
What H.P. do you hope to pull?
Just curious
When you go in deep on these engines, are you using a certain brand of turbo or are you compounding them?
Keep up the good work!!!
HotRodSS 04-26-2008, 01:42 PM x2
Inquiring minds want to know. :)
BMDMAX 04-26-2008, 04:00 PM The goal is to make as reliable an engine we can with some of the best components available right now. I think there is still a ton to learn but we have some of the best minds working on this project.
The trucks won't really be daily drivers per se anymore, they will be weekend cruisers, drag racers and event whores. ;) Anyone who thinks that these full tilt race builds are daily drivers has been huffing too much high temp block paint. :)
We have set a goal to be in the mid 700's, maybe a touch better with the ability to shoot it to over 1000 when necessary. Again, we are trying to be realistic as 1,000 HP engines endure enormous stress so the 1K blasts will be for the dyno sessions.
We have not yet finalized the turbo configurations but we have been noodling mainly single turbo setups that will work with the SoCal crank and nitrous. Twins can always be an option too, who knows.
We will certainly keep you guys posted on the build, installation and results. I am certainly looking forward to running John's tunes on the new build, it is going to be a blast! :)
TommJr 04-27-2008, 12:00 AM Please PM me when the dyno runs begin.
I would love to see you guys run those drums of johnny's.
Where has slowkid been anyway?
Good luck guys!!!
Kennedy 04-28-2008, 09:43 PM My 2002 hasn't done serious driving/work duty for a while now and probably won't anytime soon, but it did have an opporuntity a bit back to reverse roles with my 2005 and trailer the 2005 from Bismarck ND home. Did extremely well...

23,000 miles and counting!
You don't need a full tilt race build for 700rwhp. You do for 1K HP!

And for sale at least at one point. Drive it to work every day?
PitchBlack 07-14-2008, 06:37 PM I seen the crate of parts sitting in Kennedy's shop today for three 7.1L duramaxes. Keep us posted on the progress John.
Josh2002cc 07-14-2008, 07:02 PM So are the stroker kits from Socal available and ready for shipment?
STROKE THIS DMAX 07-14-2008, 07:09 PM I heard one of these 7.1 strokers broke a crank. Any truth to that??

I told ya if you found out I'd have to kill you...;)
Anyhow, the realization has set in that the contents of this crate is worth more than any of my trucks is ...
As to one breaking, I haven't heard that. I've heard rumors that there are some of these out there, but considering Guy has just finished up the balancing rough in etc, I'm sure they aren't production kits if that matters.
DuraMax83 07-15-2008, 11:34 AM Mine should be finished in the next three weeks :D The block is in getting bored either today or tomorrow. Once the build is done and broke in I'll try and get some numbers posted.
duramaxn 07-15-2008, 12:33 PM Ive got a billet crank that we went neutral balence with...and so far...turned out great. Took a ALOT of malory but looks awsome in the block! Looks alot different then when it came in...thats for sure!

I heard a rumor too, but I think one needs to investigate the source, the setup, and the circumstances...
