Looking at wheels, and like alot of the styles, but don't want to spend a mint on them right now. Tranny upgrades are more important. So I found some Eagle Alloys at a good price. My question is, how good of a wheel does Eagle make? They are rated at 2600 lbs and are polished. Will this wheel hold up under towing?

I believe all eagle wheels are cast, not forged. If you do a good deal of heavy towing, I'd go with forged, but more spendy... I'm contemplating having my stockers on the dually powdercoated black, and keeping the factory cap and trim ring. I'll put that on the 'to-do' list...

2600 lbs is not enough for heavy towing. You need 3000 lbs plus. The rear axle is rated at 6,000 lbs.

Further research shows the factory wheels are rated for 2440# @ 80 psi per Accuride specs. Sounds like you should be okay with the Eagles.

Bruce - it's a dually, so he's got four out back, tipping out at 10,400#. SRW would be a totally different ball of wax.

I had the Eagles. They looked pretty good.....except for the damm caps. My caps bent on the flange and began to "spin" ever so slightly that they would sing on occation. Once the caps bent.....they began to rust very fast.
My take...... Rims look ok but the caps are POS's

AE's are budget rims but have a HUGE variety/sizes and are easy to get. I'd probably not get them again unless I knew i was purposely tearing them up as they are super cheap compared to other rims out on the market. I had a pair on my avalanche and they were ok I suppose. But like Burner said, the centercaps would spin, and you'd have to take off the wheel and put duct tape or something to wedge it so it won't spin or make noise while driving. Plus the finish isnt as good as say Weld or Boyds.. If you're working with a budget, they are a good alternative, but dont expect too much if they start fading, staining or finish wears off quickly..

If you have the money, I'd go with any of the Weld brand rims, especially their Evo's..

With those eagle wheels you could run the stock lug nuts and center caps over them couldn't you? Seen a guy with his that way on some MT classic IIs and it looked good. Can't remember who offhand, guy that's on here with a 2wd.. Had 37 inch claws on it too.

nar,

all depends on the wheel style, I dont see why you couldnt. As long as the hole/opening for it is wide and shallow enough, then the stock lugs could be used..

I am wanting the style 129/130. Yes I am on a budget, and some wheels are too high priced. Way to high.

Might want to check the ID of the rim with the OD of the cap before you try it. I doubt that the OEM cap will fit. Also, the OEM steel rim or cromed rim has a slightly different cap than the OEM Alcoa rim.

I too have Eagles. I was aware of how hard they were to clean prior to buying, but for the price i couldnt resist. If i could do it all over again id buy chrome.:)

had eagles on my 1/2 ton. IMO, they are the some of the worst wheels you can buy. hard to clean, were not as true as my current Weld wheels, easy to damage and no load capacity. dont pay 40K for a truck and cheap out on wheels. yes they are cheap, for a reason. you get what you pay for. I am not advocating everyone run out and buy welds, but you can do much better for not a whole lot more money.

The mickey Thompson wheels are rated higher than the eagles I think.

I'm with ski,

You get what you pay for. I know that wheels are somewhat overpriced, especially for brand names, it's there for the people who want or can afford it.. I'm still saving up for a set of Boyd Coddington HotRod 8's.. probably run me about 650 per wheel and another 400 each for tires.. !#*)$&#*&%)#Y)#*% damn this money pit, worse than a woman sometimes!

Hmm...I've got a set of the 101's like Snuff and I think they're EASY to clean. I wax them once at the beginning of Spring and use regular soap and water to clean them up. I must say that I DO NOT use any special wheel cleaners as I believe they do more damage than good.I also put the stockers on in the winter as the plow will not clear the 285's. Have no had any problems with them at all and for the 350.00 I paid for'em, they're cheap enough for me to change when I get sick of them(which I am now..currently shopping).

What does WELD make for a dually?

I have the Eagle 137's. They are rated for 3420#. I can't comment on difficulty of cleaning as I have yet to do that.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif I would imagine that the simulated beadlock will cause some extra work to clean them up.

I have the eagle 102's on my truck. Easy to clean, just use soap and water.
1029-7888 16x8 Polished 8 on 6.5 -20 mm 3 5/8 N/I 3420 lbs. 24 lbs. Just got this off the weld website, "51 Stonecrusher Forged from tough 6061 Alloy. Up to 3,200 lbs load rating " Looks like the eagles have 220 lbs on the welds.

I bet that load rating makes weld mad since they claim to have the strongest wheels made. Plus the eagles are usually 200 cheaper if you find the right place. That 102 is a nice looking wheel. Those 137s look good too. I think I like the big holes better.

IIRC, I picked up the Eagle 137's for just over $400 for the set. The only problem I have had with them is the installers nicked the chrome off of the corners of the lugnuts(they didn't have any thin wall sockets) and they are starting to rust. I have another set of lugnuts though and I will be changing them out when I rotate the tires in a few days. I do have thin wall sockets and I will torque them to spec instead of using an impact until it stops. Also, if you purchase a set of Eagles, go ahead and opt for the stainless centers. The finish is slightly duller than chrome, but it will last a lot longer.

Take a look at Jegs.com website. I purchased a set of ION chrome dually wheels from them for $319 ea. The finish is not show quality but they do look good.( the tight spaces and inside edges of the wheel didnt get fully polished ) I also have larger 235 BFG Commercial T/A tires and now have enough room between the rear tires that they dont ever hit together when loaded towing. All in all Im happy with them. But Im LAZY. No Polishing - just soap and water for a mirror shine.
