just got profit sharing, thought i'd share some conversion pics ;)

my k20 originally had a 350/th350/np203. the 6.2 was tossed in a few weeks ago with the th350 and torque converter from a 2wd turbo-400. i picked up an nv3500 from the u-pull in december. now i finally have the money to get the rest of the parts.

the nv3500 had an np241c bolted to it. needless to say it's garbage to me right now, for the pumpkin on the dana 44 is on the other side.

i finally grabbed an np208 (32 spline) from another diesel truck yesterday. bolts up perfectly.

the pedals where a pain. i got a clutch/brake pedal arrangement from the u-pull. the truck was the same year as my cab. i have to thank high sierra for the info and pics he shared. the dimples on the firewall were where they needed to be drilled. not forgetting the help from Tom86chevy either.

wish i could say i had a pic of the flywheel, but they ordered the wrong part. the guy was 1 number off and they sent me a strut mount?

so what do you guys think?

You've never converted a strut mount into a flywheel? Shoot...I used to do that all the time! JK!

Sweet parts! I often times dream/drool about putting an NV4500 and an NP205 in my M1008 and running front and rear PTO winches.....

oh ya, for real. i was out there looking around forever. found basically only 1 5-speed.

i just picked up the flywheel yesterday. i've been looking at the clutch set for the last couple days, thinking how the hell does this work? just thinking, ah it'll all work out in the end..

the flywheel..

the clutch/flywheel.. (the two aren't light, together. wow)

what is with this?

i've never actually set up, or owned, a clutched vehicle. there's a gap, but yet it looks like it'd compress like a spring, is this right? how does it disengage?

as long as you tighten the bolts down alittle at a time like a turn or two so as not to warp your clutch cover you will be alright. and there should not be any gap under the ears that bolt the clutch cover to the flywheel . hard to tell from photo. as far as how does it work the throw out bearing will push those flower pedal looking metal fingers in and it will release your clutch disc. make sure you have a pilot bearing in the center of your flywheel that matches the end of the transmission input shaft. this pilot bearing or bushing helps hold the clutch disc straight and tru and keeps the trans imput shaft from sagging and wearing out the front trans bearing. hope you have a stubby little plastic alignment tool with your clutch disc to help you keep you disc in alignment while tightening down your clutch cover. sorry for all the info just thought you might need alittle help.

help? the need was thrown out there a lot. i know my cell camera is crappy. i knew that i needed to slightly tighten bolts, bolt my bolt, a little at a time. don't want to wreck what i've spent far too much time studying and investing upon. the gap is maybe an 1/8 inch, maybe bigger on the thirty-second scale.
my matched clutch set came with pilot bushing, bearing, spline lube and alignment tool.

just looking at the stuff, i'm having trouble figuring out how the 'fingers' on the pressure plate, getting pushed in, releases the clutch.

like i said, never had a manual before. although i acquired one once that i wanted to put into a bronco, (pieces) got thrown out by other people, shot the whole plan.....

i've torn down automatics, c6 the best :) , aod the worst (like 700r4's,) made things work. but this just seems... silly

When you push the clutch pedal, the "throw-out" bearing pushes down on the fingers which disengages the clutch and allows the input shaft to freewheel from the motor. It's not very complicated.

How it works dot com probably has an illustrated thing showing....well, how it works.

that's how i thought it worked. seems like it'd had to be pressed down really really hard. i've looked at a few exploded diagrams. by looking at them, i've determined that i have everything and are new.

thanks for your thoughts guys :rockit:

It does have to be pressed down REALLY hard, but hydraulics and different points of leverage have an amazing way of multiplying forces applied:D
