Does anyone here with a new generation truck have exhaust fumes inside cab while riding with the windows up. It only does every now and then. Maybe every other day. Took it to the dealer and they could not find the problem.

No, but when the engine is in regen, occasionally under the right circumstances I will smell fumes for a few moments. I've had that happen several times.

I had this with my 05 LLY, mostly in winter. Have not noticed it yet in my 08 LMM, (knock on wood).

Forgot to mention. I believe the new body style cab is much tighter than the old body style cab. GM really stepped up to the plate in the quality dept in my opinion.

Mine does it on re-gen, smell it with windows up or down when stopped at a light etc. I've read where some have actually blocked the vents at the rear of the cabin to stop it......

I tried blocking the vents but it still comes through when I am stopped at a light. I think it actually comes everywhere not just the vents in the back. Although it isn't as bad now was when the truck was new.

I noticed the slight smell of fumes every once and a while out on the highway in moderate traffic the other day. I couldn't isolate it well enough to rule out fumes from other diesel vehicles, but a few times I suspected the fumes were from my truck.

I have had this a few times.

Need to take it to the dealer and they will unbolt the clamp for the front pipe to the downpipe. Reseat the two together and reclamp.

I haven't had one come back yet (knock on wood)

If this does not fix it then they will need to replace the down pipe.

Will only happen during regen.

Same here but i spaced out the dpf and cat with washers. When the truck regend it would really stink up the cab and melted the aluminum heat shield OOPS. Now im just going to straight pipe it this weekend.

It's regen, go for a spin on the highway.

Mine also smells like diesel during regeneration. 6000 miles on truck.

yeah, it has to be the regen. the fuel economy starts to go south and you can smell it when you come to a stop. Even had it a couple of times after going into regen on the freeway/highway and then pulling into the city. Can you really eliminate by going back on the dealer and having them replace the exhaust. I guess I need to know since I just ordered an MBRP filter back exhaust today!!

This is one of the many reasons I'm taking off my DPF, today!:D Mine would be worse at a light, other than that not bad. Plus I'll be driving around in dry grass this summer, can't take any chances. Chris

Is there a TSB on this issue?

I was reading this thread last night to see why people are smelling this.. this morning I get in my truck, start driving into work.. sitting in traffic and I notice a burning/fume smell..then it went away after a minute or two.. I pull up to my shop, get out and there it is again.. noticed it a few more times thoughout the day.. I tried to sniff around for where its coming from, check under the hood, around the tail pipes, even sniffed around under the truck (well the sides) and guess what I found when I was under the truck.. Looks like when they put the undercoat on the truck (just last week) they got a little bit of it on the exhaust pipes.. seems to me, thats what the smell was.. it was heating up and smelling like fumes..

Mine was awful, it is caused by regen.
