Big Equipment in Havre MT has like 8 or 9 on Tractorhouse. They range from $22K for a 350HP model to $225K for the big 650HP unit.
1-888-265-9554 ask for Ron Harmon. He's the guy who actually built them new.

A couple locals have 2 or 3 each. The one is the big 600HP or 650HP model :D. One thing for sure that 1150 Cummins is one wicked sounding machine.

I may be wrong but I thought the only 2 stroke diesels were the "Screaming Detroit Diesel's", you can hear those things a long way away.

Even today there still isn't a 650HP tractor. JD's biggest is 580HP currently.
Here's my favorite Big Bud pic. 4 tires on each corner

Doesn't the new Challenger, the one with the wheels that AGCO makes, have 600hp in it's largest model? Just curious, I seen one being off loaded at the railyard a few weeks ago.

I know cat now makes a 600hp tractor but its still not a big bud. they are so cool. to work on them i believe you just have to switch a few levers and there is enough space that you can walk along side either side of the engine on catwalks and work on it. very good idea.

Thats the picture I was trying to load. Glad you got it on here.

The Big Bud is 650 hp but it dwarfs todays articulated tractors in shear size, they are huge. There is a great video out there that is just about the Big Bud tractor it's terrific.

Biggest Challenger I can find is 525 and the same with New Holland. There's a Buhler Versatile that's 535,CIH that's 530,and the Deere shows 530 but they claim 580.

The thing with the Big Buds is that they can crank them up more. I've seen a couple that had
665HP ratings on them and the guy here that works on them {good friend of mine} I believe told me they can go even higher on the HP.

I guess the MT900B is only rated at 570hp, per their website....Anyone know what the Big Buds weighed???

In 1977 the Big Bud 747 tractor was built in Havre, Montana. The tractor was built by Ron Harmon and the crew of the Northern Manufacturing Company. The tractor was built to produce 760 horsepower using a 16-cylinder Detroit Diesel engine. The tractor measures 27 feet long, 20 feet wide, and 14 feet tall. The tires were specially made by United Tire Company of Canada and are 8 feet in diameter. When the 1,000 gallon fuel tank is full the tractor tips the scales at over 100,000 pounds.
It was originally designed for the Rossi Brothers, cotton farmers in Bakersfield, California. The Rossi Brothers used the tractor for deep ripping. They owned and operated the 16-V747 for 11 years.
After leaving the cotton farm of the Rossi Brothers the Big Bud found its way to Indlantic, Florida. The second owners, Willowbrook Farms, also used the tractor for deep ripping purposes. Willowbrook Farms retired the Big Bud and left it to rest.
In 1997 the Big Bud found its way back home to Montana, only 60 miles from where it was built. The Williams Brothers of Big Sandy, Montana purchased the tractor and brought it to their farm in Chouteau County. The Williams Brothers use the tractor for cultivation purposes, pulling an 80 foot cultivator. The tractor can work more than one acre per minute, at speeds up to 8 mph. Except its new paint job, chrome stacks, and a whopping 900 plus horsepower - the Big Bud looks like it did when it rolled out of the Northern Manufacturing Company building back in 1977.

John Deere only makes 530 horsepower 580 is there peak horsepower rise when load put on but the motor cant hold that. CASE IH and NEW Holland make a 535 horse out the cummins and have a peak horse power of 585. CAT is currently at number one and have been for a few years with something like 575 are 580 and the peak horsepower is over 600.

I think somone has a bigger tractor in the 650hp range. I cant remember who it was, some forign company supposed to start selling them in canada this year. I think they were from russia.

I hadn't seen that 747 before.
I did some wrenching on a smaller one with an 855 Cummins in it last summer{owner didn't want to do the belts himself} and my buddy rebuilt the motor in the bigger one with the 1150 Cummins.

tbeck
04-16-2008, 05:26 PM
Not exactly. Early versions ran 855 cummins. Larger models 8V detroit. Big ones "K" cummins at 1150 cubic inches. The BIG ones could be had with a 12V detroit and THE BIG ONE runs a 16V detroit (pictured above in bighawg's thumbnail)

(Buhler) Versatile was bought by a Russian company. I hope they drop the Buhler part of the name, and go with the good old Versatile name and colours again.

Anyway, I also heard rumours of them upping the power to compete, so we will see.

you dont have to drive it down the road when you own 2k acres in one spot!

my uncle has a video on this thing that he bought. the Big Bud 747(biggest one ever) is the ONLY one. it has two 8v92 detroits bolted together (hence the 16v), and they are mounted on a skid under the hood so they can be removed within a short time. this thing actually still has the original tires on it!

I believe you are right. They just slap a real V16 detroit engine into it.
The one with the quad wheels (16 in total) is for sale in the farm paper i just noticed this morning. $150,000.

We have a hard enough time turning around with triples, the outside wheels already hit.
