: So who's got what?
BudTX 04-14-2008, 12:09 PM I have a 1950 Ford 8n. It is a working tractor, not very pretty, but plugs away pulling a brush hog, a 2 bottom plow and a middle buster.

michaeljp86 04-14-2008, 04:31 PM I have a 1950 Ford 8n. It is a working tractor, not very pretty, but plugs away pulling a brush hog, a 2 bottom plow and a middle buster.
I am looking to upgrade to a tractor in the 35-40 hp range, but haven't found the right one at the right price yet.
I dont mean to bash your tractor but those fords are about worthless in todays world. Dont get me wrong, they've held there own for a long time but today you need good hydraulics, live PTO and more nuts to do the job.
I have a IH 484, its a 1979 but in my mind was built before its time. The 3pt will lift 3100lb and has 50hp. It a good usable tractor for todays standards.
I payed $1000 for it and had to rebuild the engine. I have 2k-2500 into it so far.

We used to have an 8440, loved that tractor. Pops bought it basically new but cheap as it had been repo'ed.
We run a lot of red now because we have a retired red mechanic on the payroll, and that makes harvest so much better!! Famous last words, give me a 10 mm wrench and a screwdriver. Then the pump gets tweaked!!:D

We use both green and red and it boils down to the dealer more than the machine. luckily we have really good dealers for both nearby. used to be able to drive to Columbus and get any green part but they closed it up.

What's funny is your half hearted attempt to conceed that the Stieger was MAYBE ok even IF it's the wrong color...;)
I've had alot of Deere equipment over the years and most was good stuff but when it comes to tractors the price per value (to my operation) was just never there. That's why for me it was just about all IH as in 706, 656, 806, 1066, & 1086. I liked the Deere equivalent but just not the price since I never bought any new ones.
When it comes to lawn tractors, I wouldn't have anything but a Deere and never have.
michaeljp86 04-17-2008, 04:27 PM What's funny is your half hearted attempt to conceed that the Stieger was MAYBE ok even IF it's the wrong color...;)

Im with you on the price of deere but Id take a deere any day over a IH. Everything just seems to feel better, like where the controls are. The IH operator platform just seemed poorly designed to deere. Getting into bigger tractors I cant really talk about that because Ive never ran any.

Definately agree with you on that. I've got a BX2200 (2 less HP and no backhoe). The damn thing has been to hell and back and keeps on going. Only problems so far have been a punctured oil filter (I swear I didn't see that log), a broken HST cooling fan (again, I didn't see that log either) and a busted loader hydralic line (not my fault). Also, 18-24 inch deep stream gives it a very good underhood cleaning:D. I've used that little thing for everything from brushclearing to finish grading to mowing. It also fits down a sidewalk to squeeze into those really tight backyards.
Other than the BX2200 I've got a JD 750 and a JD 317. When I lived in NY my grandfather had two AC CA's, a Ford 8N, and a International T340 Dozer. Sold it all when he moved to NC:(. He and I restored the CA's and the 8N.

DURAtotheMAX 04-29-2008, 10:32 AM we have a simplicity legacy, basically simplicity's 4 wheel drive answer to the Kubota BX-series
I love it, perfect for what we need, big hydraulic angling plow, huge shaft driven belly mower, 3 point hitch, ROPS, front end loader. 700-something hours on it never any problems.
Its not the diesel model though. :(
rockman20 04-29-2008, 10:48 AM Tough to name everything that is on the farm my dad lives on. Then there are some trucks, pickups, etc.
Oh wait, sitting over on a different piece of property, there is an old Drought (SP?) excavator.
Then on my one brother-in-law's farm is my Farmall Super M and there is an old Minneapolis Moline (model slips my mind now as well).
And on the other brother-in-law's farm is his International 856.

I like that 6030, I bet that beast pulls
rockman20 05-07-2008, 03:46 PM The 6030 is a pulling beast! At the same time though, filling THAT baby up sucks! :D She guzzles the fuel.
But it is basically new now. The engine was just gone through as was the pump. New sleeves, pistons, and crankshaft! The biggest problem with that tractor was getting footing. It'll pull just about anything if you can get the footing! They were in the 150 HP range at the drawbar. We have added weights and tires and she still spins like nothing.
The Versatile 936 replaced it.

A good friend of mine, the guy I got my IH 484 from had a 6030 set up for pulling. I think he said it was around 400hp, I forgot what he spent on the injection pump but it was alot.
There is a guy at the tractor pull with like 12 6030s. All of them are in perfect condition, nobody can outpull him, hes a wizard with these tractors. I guess he got a new one hes building for the super farm stock class, well over 1000hp.

In a way they are, hes like a 6030 god. These tractors are perfect, run perfect, look perfect. Only thing is its the same every year, he hooks up and drives down the track and finishes with a cloud of black smoke. Nobody can touch this guy, one day Ill have to get a 6030 and show him whats up. :D

My grandfather had a neighbor in the early 70's who was one of the first in the Nebraska tractor pulls who took I think it was an Oliver of some type andy put a surplus Huey helicopter engine in it. That was a puller for several years and then lots of others go into the turbine stuff but it was great to watch in the early times when they pulled at the State fair
MaxRock 05-09-2008, 12:39 PM I've got a powerhouse! A Yanmar 146 garden tractor! Yup, a 14 HP, 6 speed hydro-shift tranny. It looks like a riding lawn mower on steroids...when in the back of the truck (w/o the belly mower, won't fit) the hood is taller than the top of my cab.
I've pulled my 2500HD with this thing, the 3pt hitch (cat 0) will pickup around 250# and has pulled a 18' flatbed trailer w/o to much trouble. I had no idea what 14HP can do!

Duromax04 06-20-2008, 06:14 PM Here is a pic of a JD3520 I got 2 weeks ago. Is a nice little tractor and capable of way more than I would have thought. It is 37hp with a little turbo. Nice little rig. I looked at a bunch in the 28 to 35 hp range and this one ended up at my house for several reasons. One, they gave 0% for 42 month, second, it was the most HP for the money, and it is all about the ponies.
Third was ease of maintinance. It is easy to get to all the filters. 4th it had some nice features that none of the others had. Cruise, speedo, loadmatch, and other things.

Get on AOL then while your online go to start, all programs, then find internet explorer and click on it. Then type in dieselplace.com and then go to where ever it is you want to post you picture. Then click post reply, scroll down and click manage attachments then go to browse and find your picture on your computer or memory stick and hit upload. If you have dialup like me it will take like 5min for the photo to upload. Then you just click submit reply and your picture will come up.
The biggest problem is on a computer something simple is so hard to explain.

I doubt you keep these outside so you must have a huge building. You could sell all those and retire :D
BlowingBlackSmoke1566 07-21-2008, 10:29 PM Actually two buildings, and we are in the process of building a new shop that will be 48'x16'x60' right now. Most of those tractors are owned by my dad, the only two that are all mine are one of the 560 Diesel's and the 806 Diesel. And yes, there are some $$$ sitting there, but the restored ones are fun to play around with a show. Oh, and that is not including the few Cub Cadets we have and the older unrestored IH's that are in what we call "Death Row".

Ford 861 ('57 or '58 - not sure which) for grading rocks, plowing snow, occasional "brush-hogging", and finishing mowing (and hayrides in October)
Jerry
Looks like I've been wrong on my model tractor for years. Just found out it is actually a 1955 Ford 860, not an 861. FWIW.
