I searched and found a little, This seemed like the most logical place to ask this. I am new to diesels, Don't even have one yet. But while looking for a tow rig for my Jeep I found a 1983 Chevy Diesle with all the trimmings. It seems mechanicaly sound. New exaust rebuilt auto tranny (that actualy looks like it has been out cleaned and at least painted before being put back in) everything looks fine on it but I do not know much about the diesel. It is the orignal engine with 130000 miles on it. It seems a bit doggy but I am used to a gas engine and higher gears.. It is a half ton.
Are these decent trucks, when I started it spit a bit of smoke but after a few seconds it went away. The valves are a bit louder than the new diesels but I can live with it.
It comes with a running parts truck of the same year and 2 spare engines. One needs a new crank but the crank comes with it.
It is almost to good of a deal to pass up. So I wanted to gather some Info and try to make an inteligent decision.. One thing I did not like was they have replaced both trannys recently.. Is there problems with the 700R behind a diesel?
I know I am new here but any help would be greatly apriciated.
