:help: I have a 2005 D/A with edge juice W/A. 4" exhaust and true flow air intake.
I am having two different problems that may be related but i am pretty Diesel Dumb and could use some help.
1. If left at idle for an extended time period i get a CEL.
2. When i really stomp on the throttle i get a really wierd noise that sounds
like a backfire or a big burst of air being released. If i stay on thethrottle
it will continue to happen but stops as soon as i back off. This only happens when boost reaches 30.0
Any Idea's / Jeff

I dont know about the CEL but it sounds like your getting "turbo bark". What level are you running on the edge ?

if you removed your CAT with the new exhaust then you may be getting EGR errors. EGR only really functions at idle and at highway speeds. exhaust on the LLY has been known to cause problems like this. I reinstalled my stock pipes for a related issue like this, but there are patches for this stuff.
not sure that is turbo bark you are hearing..turbo bark isn't a continuous sound but is actually like a "bark"..the rush of air comes back to the turbo and almost stops the turbines causing the sound, but its usually a sharp, quick bark. Is that what you are hearing? maybe you have an exhaust leak or something..also, when aftermarket intakes are used you hear more sound than stock.
let us knwo what you find out

i Have a full 5 inch exhaust on my 04.5 with no problems, i heard from my exhaust guy that on the 05 lly if you remove the cat the egr code will got on just like in the 04.5 but along with it, it will not run right and , thats somthing that changed from the 04.5 to the 05. they make it so you can no longer remove the cat.

The cat was not removed but the 3 1/2 ends were removed and the openings were opened up to allow the 4". probably should have just removed the cat but you never know what crazy law will be next here in california.
I am not familiar with turbo bark but from what i have read on the other post it does not really sound like what they are describing as "Turbo Bark" . It sounds like a large volume of air being released in cycles and the motor looses power.

You may want to have the dealer check all of the intercooler hose clamps and make sure they are nice and tight, if they aren't, they can blow off completely or "burp" so to speak. I have had this happen to me as well, so I am going to have our diesel tech check all of my clamps too.

It feels like it loses power, noise goes away and power is back? That's the only thing I can relate to that could possibly cause less power. Inform us of what you find.

12,700 miles and no problems! :thumb: Just thought I'd through that in here now before all 05 LLY's became bad...

Jeffro,
Your sig doesn't say where you are from, but you mentioned CA. Sometimnes a larger exhaust install will be enough to make the SES light come on, ecspecially in CA emission trucks. The fingers stick will cure the light if that's the case

Also try running it without the Attitude. There were differant versions and not all are compatable with the LLY box Mine did it. It felt like a backfire on a gas engine. Like a stuck open intake valve or something. Explain the CEL some more???

It could also be a turbo solenoid or turbo vane position sensor. That COULD cause the excessive barking and ses light. Just a possibility. Need to find out what your dtc's are or else its all just a guess.
