duramaxdemon 04-11-2008, 07:55 PM Those look sharp! You did a really nice job.
ThumpinCR 04-11-2008, 08:02 PM Nice!!
jdugie123 04-11-2008, 08:06 PM thanks i thought they really turned out nice
bugsy2004 04-11-2008, 08:09 PM Looks good. I was thinking of just fogging in the in-dents in the spokes. What kind of paint did you use and how durable do you think it will be?
noproblem 04-11-2008, 08:09 PM There is a guy who did the exact same thing over at dieselbombers.
BudTX 04-11-2008, 08:18 PM Nice look!
DIESAHL 04-11-2008, 08:23 PM a ? alittle off topic do u use the H2 lugs or the stock lugs from the truck? and you did a great job. i am debating on getting a set and doing the same thing. what size tire are you going to run?
bugsy2004 04-11-2008, 08:46 PM I used the stock lugs from the truck so i could use my center caps. Put 305/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers on.

that would be me i posted these over there also

i just used some cheap spray that i got from walmart but i found the trick is to prime the surface with a good auto primer. i have done a buddies wheels like this on his hunting jeep and they have been good for a few years now so i guess it holds up good

i have locks on all my lugs because that is the only way to not scratch my main wheels is this way so i am not going to even use the caps i just figured if i sell these later it would look better with the caps painted also
i know they aren't perfect but it looks good to me
Hammer 4 04-11-2008, 09:31 PM Copy cat...:p: They do look good though..:D

RENODMAX 04-11-2008, 09:32 PM very nice! i love when people paint wheels! I did mine all black and Hammer did his kind of like yours. They do that same thing on the Rod Hall Hummers
jdugie123 04-11-2008, 09:37 PM Copy cat...:p: They do look good though..:D
i thought i had seen them done like that some were isn't the best compliment imitation. yours look like they were done a lot better then mine i only had 1" wide tape i should of got some pin striping tape

Little trade secret for ya...I didn't use tape on the spokes..wiped the paint off with brake cleaner. just have to be careful not take paint off the inside of the spokes, or the rim..;)
RENODMAX 04-12-2008, 12:32 AM Another trade secret..let the paint set up and polish it off. I had a friend who worked at a place that built those Hummers and they did the exact same thing and they turn out so nice. You can be really precise as well.
crewzindmax 04-13-2008, 08:31 AM and yet another "trade secret." vasaline works too. wipes right off when everythings dry.
AGGAR 04-13-2008, 10:55 AM Let me think...... Yep they look very familiar! Let me look outside and make sure mine are still on the truck.

Yep. Still there! They do look good. Did you get the spacers for the rear end for the H2 caps to fit? You gonna leave the Hummer in the cap or fill it in and paint it?
74nova350ss 04-18-2008, 07:13 PM Are you guys painting the polished/chrome H2's or the standard silver/gray ones?
foreman00081 04-18-2008, 07:20 PM looks good! i got a set of H2's coming this weekend and im going to paint them all black. AGGAR, whats this about spacers to fit the caps in the back? i want to run all the caps so i dont see anything thats not black
RENODMAX 04-18-2008, 08:17 PM you have to run wheel spacers in the rear to clear the axel. The spacers extend the wheel out so you can pop the H2 center cap on.
dieseldrunk 04-18-2008, 08:41 PM Sweeeet. Hey what size spacers to run H2 caps on the rear,

that sucks! how big of spacers? i dont really want my back wheels sticking out further than the fronts either, maybe ill just have to run my stock caps
michigandmax 04-19-2008, 10:29 AM I think the stock caps look sweet....keeps the Chevy look:cool:

Check my garage for pics of H2's with GMC caps. Bolted right on.
RENODMAX 04-19-2008, 03:20 PM Yeah most people that run H2s have the stock chevy/gmc center caps. The hummer ones look pretty sweet though I have been thinking about doing them for the sole reason that the people at the tire place always strip out the plastic nuts on the stock caps because they impact them on. So i have two that look like they may fall off.

No you can space out the hummer cap by gluing 2 of them on top of each other after cutting the center out of the bottom one. There is a post with pics here somewhere, but I don't know the you can fit H2 with your lift without spacers on the front anyways.
RENODMAX 04-19-2008, 03:24 PM I think it would look hokey. The center cap would stick out twice as far as it needed to.

rims should fit just fine with the lift, its a full drop not a knuckle lift. i run my stock PYO's all winter long. ill do a search on the center cap thing but then id still need 2 more caps, maybe ill just paint my caps off of my PYO's to match.
FordStomper 04-20-2008, 04:28 PM I think the stock caps look sweet....keeps the Chevy look:cool:
Same here I thought the H2 caps would just look silly. Gonna have to paint mine now! Black H2's look awesome!
foreman00081 04-22-2008, 08:55 AM got my H2's yesterday, scuffed and painted them last night, 2 coats of black primer and 2 coats of semi-flat krylon and they came out beautiful!! i kinda felt bad scuffing them up cause they were pretty much brand new looking when i got them and they looked really nice but im real happy with how they came out and the semi-flat gave them a nice satin black looking finish. ill try to get some pics up later today. still not sure what im going to do about caps, might just run them without for now.
jdugie123 04-22-2008, 08:57 AM ya i was thinking of going with semi but i ended up with glossy
TRMN8R 04-22-2008, 09:26 AM Foreman: did you get the polished or chrome ones? also, what did you scruff them up with? I'm debating whether to get chromies and leave them alone, or polished (std) H2's and do what you did with my black truck.
foreman00081 04-22-2008, 10:00 AM the ones i got were polished and i just used brown scotchbrite to scuff them. i get the brown stuff from work, i dont know if you can buy it but the green would probably work fine also, the brown's just a little coarser so it gets the job done faster. on a black truck either would look good, im just on a black wheel kick lately so id say go black. i should be getting my 37's mounted up hopefully tomorrow or thursday and if i do ill try to get some pics up before i leave for the weekend.
crash457 04-22-2008, 12:14 PM They look good but then I may be partial.
bjadamsr6 05-30-2008, 01:52 PM the h2's i got seem to have a grey powdercoating on them. can i still paint this? is there more prep work that i have to do?
jljjdye 05-30-2008, 08:23 PM Dont run the H2s without caps. They will look terrible. I thought about doing the same thing. The back axle will stick out through the back wheels like 2 inches. Check my garage for pics of custom black powdercoated h2s with 2" spacers on the rear and black h2 centers.
jdugie123 05-30-2008, 08:52 PM i just cleaned them really good and then used a good automotive primer i haven't had any problems with them but i don't run them ever they do sit outside in the sun and i haven't seen any problems with the paint yet
x3 I like the look of the H2 caps, the 2 inch spacers put the rearend back in line with the front. The extra width give you more stability in curves(nascar uses them to cheat) check my garage,In my opinion I'll stay with the silver with stock caps
