: help with efilive logging
thesloppy 04-10-2008, 06:26 PM I am trying to record live data on efiscan. version 7.5. after connecting to truck, then clicking the yellow button. it tells me to switch to stream or dynamic. i have tried this and it still trys to connect using general mode. wth help please
Trippin 04-10-2008, 10:00 PM Scan tool.
Edit>Properties>Logging>change scan mode>select "OK" in the lower right corner.
That should do it.
Have you selected a Duramax PID file to log?
File>Open>Open PID selection file>Duramax Imperial>select "Open" in the lower right corner.
If your still having trouble, I'm just a phone call away.
timLb703 04-10-2008, 10:49 PM I was having the same problem tonight. I did just what you said and worked perfect. It seems as though I have to do the same function every time is there a way to save this.
Trippin 04-10-2008, 11:04 PM It should remember the last setting.
The only time it would change was if you recently upgraded the software.
stacks04 04-11-2008, 09:47 AM mine will remember it for a little while like a day or 2. if i go a few days or more between logs it will bring me back to whatever the default pids are. is it possible to make a pid file so i just open it. kinda like the dmax imperial selection, but with the pids i use.
timLb703 04-11-2008, 10:11 AM Logged for a couple miniutes and thought I saved logs. I am unable to locate them this morning. How would I save them to be able to send them in a email at a later date?

yeah you would just make all your pid selections that you want logged. And then click on save a PID selection with a new file name (It's the disk four over to the right on top of the "Supported" check box.

Give it the file name you want to call it.
Then goto Edit>Properties Click the start up tab. Then you'll see you can have whatever PID selection you want come up as a default when you open efilive. You can also change your default dash in that same tab for startup.

It's probably under "Mydocs/efilive/LOGGEDDATA". You would save them their, and just attach them using whatever email program you have.
thesloppy 04-12-2008, 10:46 PM thanks for the help i dont know why the pids went blank
Blacky 04-12-2008, 11:54 PM mine will remember it for a little while like a day or 2. if i go a few days or more between logs it will bring me back to whatever the default pids are. is it possible to make a pid file so i just open it. kinda like the dmax imperial selection, but with the pids i use.
Run the Scan Tool Software.
1. Select Edit->Properties.
2. Select the [Startup] tab page.
3. Check the "Always Load PID file" check box
4. Click the [...] button to the right of the "PID file" field.
5. Select your PID file name.
If you leave the PID file setting blank, it will try to load the most recently used PID file - if it can be found.
If you leave the Dashboard setting blank, it will try to load a dashboard with the same name (but different extension) as the loaded PID file.
Or you can specify a particular dashboard that you want loaded at startup.
Regards
Paul

X2
Jasondt2001 06-19-2009, 05:44 PM It depends what you're trying to do...
I mean, when I made my turbo brake I NEEDED 4 PIDs of 'concern'. By concern I mean the four values or functions that would be altered from stock directly from MY changes in the tune file to the turbo vanes.
So I made a turbo brake, I moved the vane positions around and wanted to log 4 things....
RPM - Boost Pressure - Actual Vane Position - Main Injection rate (main1q_DMA.mm3).
This way i could watch what my changes did - I could watch the boost pressure with the turbo brake on and see the max at a varied RPM range.
I could also watch the actual vane position when letting off the throttle (which is why we log MM3 - I've got it tuned at 15 - mm3 at specific RPMs it kicks on). When I let off the throttle the MM3 falls and at a certain RPM when the mm3 is low and rpm is right the tune commands the vane position to go WAY up creating the brake.
===========================
With that said, there's alot of other variables that HELPED me greatly in seeing how the brake works... off hand, MPH, EGTS, Gear the trucks in, TQ converter locked or unlocked etc...
I guess what I'm saying is log what you change - if you turn up the fuel, log EGTs, boost pressure (and many things I'm probably missing) ... I usually log AS MUCH as I can though... that way if something weird happens that I can't replicate (Or if what I made sounds like it's going to blow something up the second time I try to replicate it) I've got ALL my values at my fingertips to help me find what it was that happened (thank god that hasn't happened yet).
If you want, I'll post up my PID list and you can load them and see for yourself, just let me know!
Jasondt2001 06-19-2009, 06:02 PM I remember a while back JD you said something about shifting weird and i thought it might be a de-fuel request?
I'm not sure if you can laptop only log it but, on the V2 with black box logging pick
Engine RPM, Throttle Position and Requested Torque Reduction - that'll help you check off if the tranny is requesting torque reduction before it shifts or not.
If it DOES then you just turn it off - relog it, and see if it pops up again...
JD4440 06-19-2009, 06:59 PM I haven't had the shifting issues since EFI. Mainly I want to log a dyno run and a 1/4 mile run.
Jasondt2001 06-19-2009, 07:03 PM LOG EVERYTHING you can, it'll be good for your tuner/tuning!
As you move up in tunes/tuners you'll see the differences and what you like and dislike you can see and change the data as time passes.
Trippin 06-19-2009, 08:02 PM Hold on there cowboy! :D
You want to try and stay around 24 channels during logging. This will allow the ECM to update the data it sends out at a reasonable rate.
Asking the ECM to send log data for everything will likely result in it logging nothing and generating and error report. ;)

ROFLMAO..... Well, technically, there is that... :D
Nice to see ya Guy, I'm still learning this thing, I'm still playing with the tow tune you made me when I bought it from ya!
JD4440 06-20-2009, 11:59 AM That's most likely whats happening to me Guy. I get an error 11 every time I try to log

That'll work :D
