I recently traded a quad for an 85 single cab 3/4T 6.2 4X4. The bed is shot so I am going to build a flat bed on it but before I build the bed I wanted to see if it is possible to convert the single cab to a 4 door. I was thinkig in stead of doing a complete body off, of just cutting the windshield posts and mid cab through the door openings and getting a 4door body from the junk yard and welding it in place of the removed section. What I want to know from you guys is if there is any differance in frame geometry between the single and double cabs, ie. will it be a direct fit?

I'm doing the exact thing but not cutting the cab at the A-pillar or floor. There are alot of inner supports that can't be connected after you make the cut. It is best to swap the complete cab. In order to install a Crew Cab to a single LWB frame you'll need to cut the floor where the rear seat passengers feet go and alittle under the rear seat to channel the the body over the floor. The very rear cab mounts can be cut into the stock crossmember and the mid cab mounts will have added to the outside of the frame as stock. You can either build these mounts or source stock mounts.

Why not get a suburban frame or a crewcab frame and shorten it? It's easier to chop and reassemble the frame than to mess with a cab, but I guess it's what you're comfrtable messin' with.

6.2 trucks are hard to find in CA even harder to find a crew cab.

It would be ideal to swap the 6.2 and shorten the frame on the Crew Cab but when all you have is a cab............

Mostly I was trying to avoid all of the wiring and rewiring. But since I will need to be cutting and pasting the new cab on to the old one I will probably just replace the whole cab and do the wiring conversion. The idea of having the body off to clean and chech all of the ground straps and repair the fuel gage without having to drop the tanks sounds pretty good as well.

i always wanted to make a suburban into a 4 door shortbed pickup, and the fact that i know where i can get a banks'd Sub for 1500$ makes it even more tempting. i just need to get rid of my blazer project.

I always thought it would be really cool to cut the camper and metal frame of a blazer and weld it into the rear of a suburban, to make it into a 4door w/removable camper shell. The tailgates on the suburban and the blazer are identical I believe, so the rear window should work fine.

the tailgates are different sizes. not much interchanges between them

older dodges are the same way . local guy stretched the frame on a 93 ctd reg cab and installed a 85 c cab and had to cut the floor because of interfearence. still a dang nice ride. all 93 sheet metal with a flatbed. this is a local fellow i sold and extra c cab dodge body i had if you want to follow go to http://crewcabcummins.blogspot.com/

speaking of a 93 dodge, here's mine. PO had the cab and frame stretched. wish they made it a 4 door, its a pain to get in the back, but the rear set folds out into a bed
