: wrecked 2003
motocopter2 02-05-2005, 08:03 PM Well, I've done the search here since I sort of recalled reading that the 2005 Chevy grill and hood will fit a 2003 and didn't find any info. Need help here as my big bad truck stamped it's big bad bow-tie into the side of a Ford Ranger. The Chevy body shop has to replace every light up front, bumper with valances (upper and lower) hood, right front fender and other miscellaneous parts. I told him I wanted to have the '05 parts - waiting for a call on this from him. What do you smart guys think. Is this a simple parts substitution? Thanks in advance.
BTW, the Ranger looked totaled! :ro) His last laught is that fact he doesn't have current insurance. Censored
Reineke 02-05-2005, 09:45 PM I would assume very simple, just as simple as placing an 03 hood and grille in place. Nothing else was changed. Got any pics?
Rich H. 02-07-2005, 02:28 PM motocopter2,
Post what you find on this idea, as I was thinking about switching mine also.
I did not get any feedback when I ask this question before.
motocopter2 02-11-2005, 09:48 PM Parts have been ordered and received. Goes into the shop on Monday.
T-Rex 02-12-2005, 02:50 PM I'd like to know how it goes too.:cool2:
An 05 grill with an 05 cowl induction hood is what I'm considering.
I want the 05 hood on my 2003. Please let me know how it turns out! Thanks
SonnyBear 02-12-2005, 10:59 PM :thumb: Very Good. Please post pics and price!
SonnyBear 02-16-2005, 08:56 AM Just wondering if there is an update? Did all the parts fit your 2003 properly?
CalDirt 02-22-2005, 11:22 PM motocopter2 how'd it go? I'd like to do this on my 2004.5 and it really looks as simple as replacing just the hood and nothing else.
PLease let us know how your 2003 upgrade went.
Thanks!
SonnyBear 02-23-2005, 08:06 AM Well, I hope motocopter2 does not get mad, but he sent me a PM yesterday in reponse to one that I had sent asking him if it worked. He stated that it did :thumb: and that they were still working on it. He also sent me some photos on the progress, because he said he could not get the new site to upload any photos.
The hood is on his truck and there is still work to be done, but it looks like it will be a perfect fit!
He also mentioned that we will need to order a new hood insulator; the 03-04's won't fit the new hood.
With his permission, I think I can upload the photos.
I plan on ordering the parts ASAP. :grd:
haneym 02-23-2005, 08:44 AM so where are the photos?
caldirt - the grill is different too. the 05 grill goes up higher to meet the hood than the older ones, so you would have to change both.
Lennart 02-23-2005, 08:57 AM If that happened to mine I would switch to a GMC front end....might be worth considering.
ratlover 02-23-2005, 09:21 AM I squashed my 03 and got a cowl hood and almost got a SS grill(but mine was saveable, I did take the $ for a grill though....eventually i will put an SS grill on it) Another idea. SS bumper and such also bolt on pretty easy IIRC
SonnyBear 02-23-2005, 09:34 AM so where are the photos?

Yes, the grill will also have to be replaced. That is fairly obvious if you look at both hoods; the cut in front is different.
I will PM Moto and if he gives me permission, I will post them.
motocopter2 02-23-2005, 10:32 PM If that happened to mine I would switch to a GMC front end....might be worth considering.Sorry dude, not worth considering for me. Passed on the GMC looks in the first place. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Wanted the new headlights and I liked the hood buldge of the '01 and '02 models. So now I'll have both.
Marc
SonnyBear 02-23-2005, 10:56 PM Here are the latest photos for Motocopter2's progress.
So, only parts needed is '05 hood, '05 Grille, and '05 hood insulator? The lights, front fenders, front support are all okay to reuse?

SonnyBear 02-24-2005, 11:16 PM how much were they$?

I'm saving for my next up grade:cool2:
motocopter2 02-25-2005, 07:34 PM oK guys....picked up my beast today and let me tell you Corlew Chevrolet did an outstanding job.
The raised hood is really noticable while driving. It conceals the wipers and just presents itself as a bigger and different truck.
Tomorrow, I'm going to send pics to SonnyBear for posting (I've given up trying) but I know you have seen an '05 by now, or at least a picture or two, but it will give closure to this story.
As mentioned earlier, to facilitate hood and grill up-grade the insulator blanket needs to be replaced. But additionally, with the grill there are two pieces that need to be ordered. They are the colored units between the headlight and the turn signal/marker light just below it. I'm didn't ask if it is prepainted or not - so I'm not sure.
Anyway, I'm out of here. Look for pic tomorrow. SonneyBear, thanks for your help to others - you are definitely going out of your way for others. :ro)
SonnyBear 02-26-2005, 08:48 PM Here are the "after" pics from Motocopter2's completed front from a 2003 to a 2005. It looks factory and the 2005 HD is a vast improvement. Glad I could help post the pics for you.
My parts arrived today and she goes in the shop next week. Can't wait.
:cool2:
CalDirt 02-27-2005, 12:52 PM SonnyBear, do you have the GM part numbers of the 4 pieces needed to complete the job? Thanks.
SonnyBear 02-27-2005, 03:09 PM These numbers are from my invoice:
10394538 Hood
12335956 Grille
The hood insulator was ordered a day later because the parts dept. could not find the part listed on the database. If you can't find it, when I pick up the parts in the next day or two, I will post it.
I just found this on the parts direct website. I paid $863 for my parts. $203 difference. Wow. But, I really don't have a business address to ship to and it is more convenient to work through the dealer. Still, $203 bucks.

Reineke 02-27-2005, 07:24 PM Looks good! Blends in nicely with the rest of these purdy trucks!
StraitDiesel 02-27-2005, 10:17 PM That looks like a great idea for an upgrade, the bigger hood looks very nice! Now I am wondering, I have an 04', so would I be able to just order the hood and grille and still use my existing bumper? Or would I need anything else?
Dan

DanThe bumpers are the same. As stated earlier in the post, the only things he needed to do the upgrade was the hood, hood insulater, and grille.
StraitDiesel 02-28-2005, 12:16 AM ok, sorry about that, I was skimming over the posts and did not read that the bumper was the same, thanks!!
Dan
CalDirt 02-28-2005, 12:26 PM SonnyBear - did the hood arrive pre-painted in the correct color, or did you also have to pay to have it painted?
Also, I thought there were 4 part numbers (hood, grill, parts under lights, hood insulator) but I only see 2 parts here. Did these 2 part numbers include those other items bundled with them?
Thanks.
SonnyBear 02-28-2005, 02:03 PM The hood will need to painted as well as the 2 parts of the grille that is between the lights.
The grille is inclusive of those parts.
Hood insulator will have to be ordered, but I do not have that part number.
IF I could choose again, I would have of ordered the grille and insulator off the net and saved some bucks.
HossKartrite 02-28-2005, 02:56 PM Sonny Bear
Please keep us posted on the cost of this project with labor included.
Since I have no existing body damage, I may have the body shop paint the hood and two trim pieces that need painting, and try do the swap myself.
Thanks..Hoss
SonnyBear 03-03-2005, 05:42 PM Here are the part numbers for the insulator and two grille pieces:
Grille Strap 12335957
Grille Strap 12335958
Insulator 15117108
I paid $122 for these parts, $863 for the hood and grille.
Parts total: $985
Body shop: $700
Grand total of $1685
I ordered direct through the dealer, which I should not have. If you order off the gm parts direct site, you can save about $3-400 bucks on the parts.
The shop should have the parts painted and ready to go by next Wednesday. I will post before and after photos next week.
