i'm going to be getting a new dmax at the beginning of next week. one of the first things i will be doing to it is deleting the DPF and muffler.

my question is what is the best tuner out there for me. i'm not too interested in boosting performance significally. a little won't hurt but i don't need something that is going to allow me to go crazy. i need something that is user firendly also, because i have no experience in tuning. i was thinking about efilive, but it looking like it could be complicated.

EFI live is probably the best, and if you buy from the vendors on here they include free tune(s) with the purchase of EFI so you're basically just flashing the truck like you would with a handheld tuner. If you want simple you can do the quadzilla stealth2 and download the non-dpf tunes and you're set. You can get the quadzilla and guages for about the same price as EFI-live, but if you ever want more than the quad will do you will have to sell. If you can afford EFI I would get that. If you want to spend a little less, or get the tuner and guages buy the quadzilla.

well how much with the quad do? i know right now that i'll probably never do anything to the tranny so the highest performance i'll ever want is only what the tranny can handle can handle.

i have the Quad and it is a great tuner. i had the Edge Juice/Attitude on my 02 and i loved it for the shift on the fly capabilities, but it hasnt got great reviews on the LMMs.

with the Quad you can choose from 5 different levels - Economy, +50, +70, +90, and +110. i leave mine on +70 for better milage and some increased power, and under +90 is the best bet to keep the tranny healthy. its a simple plug and play unit and any Joe Blow can use it with no problems. hope this helps

i found a deal on a 4" turbo back exhaust and a quad tuner for $820 i believe it was. does that sound any good? i talked to a friend of ours that has an 06 dmax and he is a little more into tuning. he siad he would split the cost of the efilive since we can tune both of the trucks with it.

he also mentioned that a friend of his has an hp tuner and told him that we could use it. we would just have to buy extra licenses for our truck. is the hp tuner decent?

If you're looking to modify your exhaust for any length of time, I would not buy the HPT offering. You will not have access to disable regeneration.

Splitting the cost of EFIlive with your friend will give you both a top quality unit and less than what you would have spent on the Quad to begin with.

Just the facts,

Nick :)

i think Quad, PPE, and EFI are the only ones. Not sure if the HP tuners will do it

HP Tuners...give street to sand offroad a call in Reno, NV. You can overnite him the computer, he can program it and overite it back. I've driven a few trucks he's done this to and its great...

$820 isn't bad but ;) pm me for a better deal... i agree though the quad is hands down the most bang for the buck, you can't beat a lifetime warrantied unit for under $450 that'll do DPF delete....and what cc do you have that's bagged?

Will I get a hissing sound at IDLE with the Quad? I see posts where I would need an EFI live to stop it. Does the quad "shift on the fly"?

as far as i know, yes there is a "hiss" after start-up with the Quad and DPF delete, but i believe it does not last very long. EFI has the capabilities to change the vane positions, as well as everything else imaginable. i havent deleted the DPF YET, so my knowledge is limited and probably worthless on that question:D

quad does hiss and hiss just like normal the hissin changes on all trucks after so long just for a second as vanes open.

well i think i've made up my mind that i'm going to get efilive. i'll be splitting it with a buddy so it will bring my price down to $375. i read somewhere that nick at duramaxtuner includes two free tunes with the purchase of the scan tool. hopefully that is true. i suppose i may be able to make some of my own tunes once i mess around with it a little.

now i just need to decide what exhaust.

yea i've made up my mind on a 6" tip. i'll most likely be going with a 4" turbo back of some brand. and material will be stainless.
