I have a 03 2500HD D/A and have been reading that GM factory hitches are not up to par. I am planning on towing a 9,000 trailer with a Hensley. Is this all hype or should I make the change. If a change is required who should I change to. Thanks in advance. Pathfinder

I have worked at this dealer for 9 years, and I have never seen a factory GM hitch fail. I have, however, seen the back half of the frame ripped off with the hitch still attached.

Wow the frame failed?? What happened to the truck? Did GM replace it?

I saw one yesterday with the square receiver part nearly ripped off the round tube. I asked the guy what happened, he said he was pulling someone out of a ditch. He said he probably jerked a little too hard. I looked under his truck and the welds failed. My 98 had a much heaver duty hitch than my 04.5 does. I would expect a heavy duty hitch on a heavy duty truck. Looks like the same hitch my 02 Blazer has.

I put a Titan hitch on mine but I would agree with Max Payne that the weak spot looks like the rear frame section of the truck, especilly the very rear attaching bolt, it dosen't look like the frame section has much meat around there.
On Edit: I mean to say that if you overload the tounge weight it might fail at the frame first.
