Anyone here doing the waste vegetable oil thing with their 6.5? I found a supply of WVO good for about 20 gallons a week and I could really use some advice.

Thanks!

Yep and I'm lovin' it. Is there something specific you would like to know?

LOL, everything!

I'm guessing seperate tank? Also, what about blending in the diesel tank on top of the second tank? I'm told 20% is okay to blend diesel to WVO (not in winter, of course)

No problem with IP? Additional lift pump required? Heaters - tanks, fuel lines, IP lines?

How far do you filter down?

Like I said, I have many questions :D

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Basically your whole 6.5 WVO setup and process. If this is too involved for the site, maybe PM or email might be better? Thanks again!

I scoffed at it at first. Now I'm scroungin the dumpster at work for an old hot water heater to do the appleseed reactor. Crazy times. Fuel is up 15 cents today.

Just sold my gasser to do a 6.5 veggie setup. i hope to get a diesel this weekend. i was origionally going to get a golden fuel systems setup, but due to the price and one particular feature missing im going with greasecar. (the co-pilot feature). but definatly check out both their sites, they have great info. i had similar concerns about the LP (espicially since im running hydrogenated). i asked greasecar yesterday and they send a second pump for the veggie.

i have about 30 gallons (US) a week locked down. working on more. 20 gallons of it is hydrogenated, but its free, clean, and zero water content. worth the extra filter and warm up time for me. i will filter to 2 or 5 microns.

i dont have time or space for bio. but if i had to diesels i would probably figure something out. i go through about $340 a month in my 26-28 mpg Impala alone, not counting the truck my wife drove (not as far). so i figured get rid of the gasser truck and replace it with a diesel, keep the car for wifey.

I've blended about 50%, and will continue to blend when I find a goo supply. depending on the oil I would think it would be okay to do some in the winter. It was getting down around freezing at night when I was blending it before.
I've heard of people doing 75% oil, but I'm not sure I'm that brave.

Yeah, 50% is all I'd be comfortable with as well. What costitutes "good" oil? How do you set your criteria?

I would call good oil something like pure canola oil. if it's liquid at at least room temp and non-hydrogenated then I will take a sample and heat it on the stove to check for water. if it doesn't sizzle and it gets to 250 degrees F or more I call it good. I personally wouldn't recommend sucking it out of the oil dumpsters behind restaurants b/c the get a lot of water in them. I am looking at using some soy oil but I'm not sure it will work the same. If anyone has used soy oil I would like to know how it worked for them. You should do plenty of research though, I'm no expert so you'll have to decide what your comfortable doing. I think my truck runs better with the blend but some people claim it will destroy your truck.

Have you ever put 50/50 Dino and WVO in a glas jar shake it up and see how long it takes to seperate as my experience it will not stay mixes so over time you end up burning straight VO then thats without heat where you get in trouble with coking of injectors. Something to think about. Good luck

I would think the sloshing around when it's running would help to keep it mixed up. also the 6.5 has a heating element in the fuel filter. does this heat it enough to help?

Hmmmmm... Interesting. How long did it take for yours to seperate?
