Does anyone know how much a 6.2L diesel engine weighs? Also wondering what an '86 3/4ton 4x4 Suburban weighs. Thanks.

I can't give you a number, but I read it weighs 200-250 pounds more than a small block. That's not bad considering how much a comparable diesel engine weighs!

All my research says between 650 and 700lbs

Sounds about right. Also, I know that my '86 M1008 1.25 ton truck with a full tank of fuel, a lift with 39s, and me weighed in at 5940 pounds empty.

Fully loaded 6.2 is close to 750#. I've shipped several that have weighed 820# in an engine crate. My '82 Pickup weighs 6200# w/canopy. My '84 Suburban, 6200#.

Wow, this suprises me since I have done a lot of research including people quoting weights complete engines for shipping. But if you have first hand experience that's kinda hard to argue with when I have none until I put a scale on mine. or is that mine on a scale?

I had an opportunity to drive through a weigh station. The truck in my signature weighs a hair over 9,000 lbs.

All we need to do now is remove your engine and push your rig through the weigh station and we will be able to deduce the weight of the motor. :D

Maybe I'm getting jabbed on the shipping bill. I wonder if their scales favor the shipper? I would hope they're being fair.

I do know that the 6.2 is very close in weight to the big block gas engine because of how hard my engine hoist has to "work" to lift it. With a small block, it pumps rather easy, with the diesel, it takes more work. The ram is rated at eight tons. With it lift arm extended, the hoist is rated at one ton. I can tell the difference in the weight of engines just by the pressure needed to raise them.

The next time I have one in the back of my truck, I'm going to drive over the scales, record the weight, dump the engine off at the machine shop and weigh the truck on the way out of town. That should tell me if they're overcharging me on the shipping.

The truck in my avatar pic has a USAF sticker on the dash that indicates it weighs 5600 lbs if I remember right.
