I know there are a few guys on here that work with Line-X: Question:

How much hassle would it be to Line-X stainless steel steps? I have some on my truck that would look better if they matched my bumpers. Any problems with this? I figure it would just be sand-blasting and coating but wanted to check.

Thanks

i dont work for linex but i wouldnt think it would take anymore prep than just a good sanding at the most a sandblasting

I'm pretty sure there is no sanding required. I had mine done and a line x vendor on here called the line-x store and told them how to do it without sanding.

yes sandblast and prime is the best way to get some teeth! As with most applications if you can eliminate the edge ie spray the whole part is the best way.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll stop by the shop here and see what they can do. I've been real pleased with the work they did last year on the bumpers and bed.

No problem LINE-Xing steel. Good enough adhesion is to sand (with an orbital sander), clean, shoot.

A step up in adhesion would be to sand (with orbital sander), prime with LINE-X SF515, shoot.

Yet another step up would be to sandblast, prime with LINE-X SF515, shoot. Pull off strength would be near 2,000 pounds!!! You really don't need that for steps, but it's up to you.

Be sure you ask for LINE-X Xtra so they will always look nice.

LINE-X Xtra on factory front and rear bumpers, bed, grill guard, and steps:

Would the extra make them look significantly different than my bumpers which do not have it?

Thanks

Xtra is a little darker black than regular LINE-X. It's fade resistant and will hold its gloss. If your bumper(s) have regular LINE-X only, you can have just the Xtra applied.

I recommend the dealer use the "LINE-X ReNew" process to accomplish the task.

We glue some parts that go into our fire rescue bodies we build and I am currently on a stainless truck. Roughing up that surface will give so much better adhesion to it than the shiney of the bumper itself. I would have it sanded, sandblasted or what ever they can do to make it stick better.
