Hey everyone,

Here's the story:

I am dealing on a "new to me" 02' chevy 2500HD.
The truck has 83,000 miles, super clean, bone stock, and as far as I can tell hasn't hauled or pulled much.
Test drove it the first time and the fuel filter plugged. Limped it to the dealer and they fixed that.
went back after the fix, the dealer was pulling it out of the shop after washing it and it popped a code. This time the fuel pressure regulator was bad, which they are fixing now
Upon talking with the salesman further I said that if the injectors hadn't been replaced they would have to be before I take delivery. He agreed to work with me but said that I would have to take possetion of the truck and file a complaint for gm to warrenty them. He said that he couldn't file the warrenty request while the dealership owned it.

My opinion is that the previous owner got into a bad batch of fuel. This is alot of fuel related problems to happen to a truck in less than 5 miles. I am also damn nervous about the injectors.

Anyhow, I am looking for your opinions and advice.

Thanks eveyone,

Jake

Post the VIN in the ask the techs forum and get the skinny on the history of the truck. That truck should have injector warranty to 200K.

Thanks for the reply EMSi,

I will post the vin asap.

The way the injector warrenty was explained to me was that they are covered to 200,000 as long they have been replaced in the first 100,000.

The way my luck is they would fail at 102000, and I would get stuck with a Censored big replacment bill.

To the best of my knowledge the injectors that that truck left the assembly line with should be covered to 200,000 miles and 7 years. It has nothing to do with if a set has already been replaced. I am not sure on what the warranty interval is for the replacement set however.

Assuming the dealer you are working with is a GM store, have their service department put a Tech II scanner on it and check the balance rates of the injectors. The engine temp should be at operating temp and the engine at idle.

Here is a recent thread discussing the extended injector warranty issues for the 2001 and 2002 models.

Do you have any idea how many miles were on the fuel filter? GM says it should be changed every 15,000. Many on this board change it sooner. Was the clogged filter due to a bad load of fuel or did it go well over the 15,000 miles and clog over time? If it went significantly past the 15K miles, I would be concerned about the preventative maintence the truck received from the previous owner. (IE: Oil and lube trans service, etc.) If it recently received a bad load of fuel, consider having the dealer flush the lines and clean the tank.
