After 2-3 miles at 83 or above the truck acts like it’s running out of gas and is powerless till about 60 mph. The motor does not stop running it just has no power. I have Banks 6-gun and Banks exhaust and have run it for about 9 months and this problem has just started and can be recreated on demand. I have completely by passed the Banks programmer (problem persist with or without the programmer) and have been working with the dealer to solve the problem. Dealer seems to think the waste gate is coming open from an over-boost signal or code. The service dept contacts GM and they tell the dealer this is common with after-market exhaust. Is anyone else experiencing or have experience with this or a similar condition. Any and all help is appreciated. Truck is a reg. cab 2001 DM with about 60k miles with very reg. service and fuel filter changes.
Thanks

I have not experienced this at all. I have had a banks monster exhaust on my truck since it was 3 months old. I now have 48000 miles and not a single problem like that. Truck is a 2002 crew cab dmax/alli. It also has the juice with attitude. I can run 85 plus with out a glitch.

Get the Big Head Waste Gate. If it is the wate gate giving you issues.

The easy thing to do is put the Tech II on the truck and take a snapshot of the engine data 1, while the problem is happening. Once the data is recorded review the data to findout what is happening. Fuel pressure dropping, SOI changing, torque management active or what ever. Once you know what is happening it's much easier to findout whats causing it.

I would change the fuel filter before I did anything else.

I forgot to mention that the truck has Big Head wastegate and we have done the TechII, Once for fuel mgnt and second time for engine. Evendently this is what has shown that the wastegate is opening for an "over boost" condition. Replaced fuel filter before problem was noted and again after. Thanks again and all help is appreciated.

The Tech II will only report a code if the have been recorded by the truck. So if there is no check engine light I would clear the codes and go for a test drive and record what is happening at 83 mph to stop the truck. Look at the speed on the Tech II as this is what the computer is useing. So if the dash says 83 but the Tech II showes 96 then it's doing what it should. Something will change at 83 mph and that's what your looking for. Report your findings and we can see if we can help more.

Nothing???

What the Dealer can't figure it out so you think we can? :D

The only proper way to diagnose is exactly how Diesel Tech suggested, that's with a Tech II ,It does monitor all diagnostic starting point parameters.

The only time my 01 did something similar was when I threw a map sensor but it threw a SES code, easy.

Good luck

My rig will run all day long at 85mph pulling an enclosed sled trailer to boot. It's not the Banks exhaust.
