: Here's one I've never seen CODE 13
lupey6.5 02-04-2005, 06:45 PM Until today that is! code 13 can't be lucky. the code points to the fuel shut off sollenoid circuit. has anyone ever had this one before? if you have is it more likely the circuit or the 'noid. damn i hate this electronic crap. same symptoms as PMD failure. driving along or sitting still just decides to die, shift to neutral or park and it fires right back up. 13 is only code stored, i guess that sets it apart from pmd, it acctually sets a code.:wtf:
gmctd 02-04-2005, 08:12 PM 'sposed to be +12v on the wire - DTC sez not so - check harnesses, measure with voltmeter.
Other wire is ground - check also............
lupey6.5 02-04-2005, 08:28 PM will a failing alternator let voltage drop far enough to deactivate the 'noid or is 10-11v enough to keep it on? what do some of you guy's dash voltmeter sit at while idleing and highway speeds?
Texas Diesel Guy 02-04-2005, 09:13 PM Lupey, unscrew the ESO out of the pump, and pull the snapring/plunger out of the bottom, and replace it. And say good-bye to ESO problems ;)
gmctd 02-04-2005, 09:21 PM If that voltage level is the overall ignition supply, then it is right at the point of shutting down the PCM.
Should also give DTC-36 - not enough current to reliably close Fuel Solenoid.
So - yes, specifically, to your question.
lupey6.5 02-04-2005, 09:27 PM no 36 just 13.
texas- replace the snapring or the solenoid?
lupey6.5 02-05-2005, 04:07 PM had alt checked, bad diode, under warranty, nice. so the winner is gmctd thanks buddy!
quantum mechanic 02-05-2005, 05:11 PM Last time my alt went the trany wouldn't shift out of second gear.
lupey6.5 02-06-2005, 03:49 AM did the same sh*t on me tonight. new alt because the diodes crapped on the other one but the voltage still seems to fluctuate a bit too much. i'm gonna check everything out more tomorrow: batt connections, grounds, and check for a drain. batts are about a month old so they should be good. is the 50 on/offs the only way to clear codes from the obdI or is there some other way? still shows the fuel sol. circuit fault code 13 but i'm not sure if its new or from before.
nvmtnlion 02-06-2005, 04:02 AM Lupey,
To clear codes on OBD-I, with the pins jumpered, fully depress the accellerator and brake at the same time and hold a second then release. Turn the key off, and back on and it should only show code 12.
Good luck!
lupey6.5 02-06-2005, 04:09 AM thanks john i'll be all over it in the morning... or whenever i get my lazy ass out of bed.
Texas Diesel Guy 02-06-2005, 11:50 AM remove the snap ring and the plunger, then put the hollowed ESO back in place.
lupey6.5 02-07-2005, 09:09 AM texas---what are the negatives to doing this?
Texas Diesel Guy 02-07-2005, 09:07 PM Nada, The ESO is a secondary device, not the primary shutoff mechanism. When you shut the truck off the FSOL is deengergized so the pump doesn't delivery any fuel and the engine stops. The ESO plunger falls at the same time, and blocks fuel from entering the transfer pump. The engine will actually run for a few seconds with the ESO de-energized, until the transfer pressure drops too low to maintain operation.
