i had efi and i fried my ecm since i have got my new one if i run it hard at all then let it cool down and shut it off it takes three or four times of turning the key to crank it. does that sound like injector probs or maybe the new ecm i got or what. also if it is injector probs i believe there covered up to 150,000 right

it takes three or four times of turning the key to crank it.

Do you mean it cranks, but will not fire? Engine has to crank to 140 RPM before it will fire. If it's cranking fine, based on what you are saying, I would start to suspect hard starts when the engine is warm due to bad injectors. If you let the engine cool all the way off, does it start in 3-4 seconds? but longer when hot 160-200 degrees?

yeah it cranks but wont fire until like the third time or so that i turn the key, and every time i turn the key i let it turn over quite a bit then give it a break for a few secs then try again but it dont do that all the time just if a run it hard most of the time. im going to try running lucas through it for a few weeks and see if that helps if not doesnt the factory warrentee's the injectors for up to 150 or 200,000 miles right?

yes the warranty is 7 years or 200,000 miles. My 03 is in the shop now getting all 8 injectors replaced under warranty

yes it does. The dealer told me that i had extremly high fuel return rates. i would go and get your balance rates checked.

no and it dont do this all the time either it just seems like if i run it hard it will do it about every time but yet it will still do it now and again running it easy it dont make sense but i know of the injector probs with these trucks so thats why i was wondering but to my knowledge it doesnt really smoke at all when firing. it just feels like its not getting the fuel it needs.

balance rates check the injectors to see how they are operating. it can take a couple of hrs. my truck had 113,000 mile on it.

Balance rates take 5 minutes to check. The dealer can do it, but i am sure they will charge you a lot. Anyone with a hand held programmer can check those for you.

Uh, you indicate you have EFI Live. That can check them. Keep in mind that out of spec balance rates don't get you injector replacement under the special policy. Excessive return rates does. That test takes time and involves removing the return lines and measuring with a graduated cylinder.

You might try checking for an air leak in the fuel system that only occurs when the engine is hot. I would think that if your experience hard starts due to one or more bad injectors it would happen everytime under the same symptoms, not occasionally.

Here is a discription of the balance rate test and what it means.

I'm not sure what/how/when your ECM got fried, but we did make some software changes in our latest Black box logging software release that allows some previously unrecoverable ECM's to be reprogrammed. The software enhancement is suitable for FlashScan V1 and V2 users.

If you would like to PM me with some details about what happened to your ECM we can work through if our new solution is suitable for you.

Cheers
Cindy
