I bought one not too long ago from advance auto parts. I believe it was 80 bucks and came w/ a lifetime warranty. No problems with it yet.

Isn't there a company selling aftermarket shafts, that are sorta beefed up? I swear I saw some in a magazine the other day.

Your thinking of RCV and these things aren't sort of beefed up they are really beefed up. They use a slip shaft design as opposed to a moving tripot like the stock CV's. They are rated at 30 degree working angles and can handle up to 800HP. However, they are $580.00 Ea. So you're really going to have to want these things bad. (www.rcvperformance.com)

Wow! no those arn't the ones I saw but they are sweet. The ones I saw were made by Rough Country here's a link to the article. I can't find them on the website though(that doesn't mean they aren't there):h)

EDIT I just did a little research and I guess they are no longer making them, must not of been that good I guess.

Yes, they are the same ones. When that article was printed RC offered both 1500 and 2500 CV shafts. After the smoke cleared they decided to only offer the 1500 shafts as they figured there wouldn't be that much of a call for the 2500 shafts. 1500 CV shafts are notorious for breaking when you have a lift and/or larger tires. 2500 Shafts are stronger and not as prone to breaking. The whole problem is after a guy bought these RC shafts he figured he had solved his CV breaking problem, which he did, however because these shafts are much stronger than the stock ones other front drivetrain parts would get stressed and instead of the CV breaking, something else would possibly break in its place. RC was selling these things for $1100.00 PR separate from the lift kit. If you bought their EX lift kit these shafts were included and added about an extra $500.00 to the cost of the kit.The RC shafts were made by RCV as well but you couldn't buy the 1/2 ton CV's from them because RC had the exclusive contract. I developed an adapter that allows the use of 2500 CV's on an 99-07 1500 truck. Even though the 2500 CV is not as strong as the RCV version it is stronger than the 1/2 ton and doesn't cost $580.00 Ea. You can buy New A1 Cardone 2500 CV's for $42.00 from Rock Auto with a lifetime guarantee and that beats paying $580.00 ea for the RCV's. The RCV shafts are an awesome shaft, but unless you plan on beefing up your whole front end and beating the crap out of your truck or racing/pulling, IMHO they aren't worth the expenditure.

Yeah like you said if your racin or really hard on your rig they might be worth it. So whats with the A1 Cardone are they stronger or just a stock replacement? I'm guessing nothing too fancy for $42.

A1 Cardone are good CV's. Cognito sells them for $200.00 Ea and Advance sells them for about $90.00 Ea. I don't know why Rock Auto sells them so cheap but the part number they list is the A1 Cardone number(66-1325). They are a better stock replacement.
