: diagnostic port pictures
bigblackdmax 02-04-2005, 01:09 PM I am looking for pictures of the diagnostic port for a 2003 chevy. I just got a quad 215 and i cant get it to workhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/bawl.gif . I would like to make sure all the wires are in the right place on the port. I would like to see all views from the front and back if possible. Thanks
Kennedy 02-04-2005, 03:35 PM Check your fuses...
bigblackdmax 02-04-2005, 04:03 PM I already checked every fuse.
Max Payne 02-04-2005, 04:06 PM CIG fuse under the hood, check it again...
bigblackdmax 02-04-2005, 04:22 PM That was the original problem then i fixed it and it still doesn't work. Then I had it upgraded to a newer version but it still doesn't work. But just to be sure I checked it again.
Trippin 02-04-2005, 05:44 PM What does it do?
bigblackdmax 02-04-2005, 05:55 PM It throws a big long error code. I talked to Jeremy at quadzilla and he doesn't know what else to try so I am trying everything possible.
Cobra#3747 02-04-2005, 07:20 PM Is this what you are asking for?

Max Power 02-04-2005, 07:41 PM What do you have for aftermarket accessories? If you have anything that ties into the communications circuit it could be suspect.

Agreed!
Aftermarket Stereo?
Additional Stereo add ons?
Alarm?
I ran into this with my quad on my 2003. I needed to disconnect my XM add on in order to get the Quad to load.
Cuz 2003s are different.........:D
bigblackdmax 02-04-2005, 08:29 PM It has all stock radio and everything. It does have factory xm would that have anything to do with it.
Max Power 02-04-2005, 08:58 PM Not if it is OEM.
joefarmer 02-04-2005, 09:09 PM Alright, here's the summary: 03 D/A, level 5 ATS, copilot, J/A.
The first time the quad was tried on the truck it threw an error code "6030xxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxx" (can't remember all the numbers) after displaying the 'Unlocking PCM" screen. The quad went back and was reflashed as it was believed to be an 01-02 model. The quad was tried again and the error was still there. So now all the electronics have been replaced in the quad and it's still throwing the error. The fuse was blown once and replaced. The voltmeter now shows 12.80v between pins 16 and 5. Also shows 12.80v between pins 16 and 4. It shows 3.08v between 2 and 4.
Would the Copilot cause these types of errors?
What are the pins/connectors coming out of the PCM that match to pin 2 and 4?
I know on the Camaros the PCM is suceptible to a bad engine ground. Is this a common issue on these trucks?
What's the normal voltage on the serial data wire?
thansk!

Cobra#3747 02-04-2005, 09:39 PM Off the top of my head, I believe pin 2 should be 5 volts
Cobra#3747 02-04-2005, 09:51 PM Here is a brief part of the manual, might give you an idea
Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Class 2 Device
<A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=826345&evc=sm&pubid=297&cellId=11033&mspsdsubkey=2304#ss1-788307">Circuit Description
Modules connected to the class 2 serial data circuit monitor for serial data communications during normal vehicle operation. Operating information and commands are exchanged among the modules. Connecting a scan tool to the DLC allows communication with the modules for diagnostic purposes. DTCs may be set due to this symptom and during this diagnostic procedure. Complete the diagnostic procedure in order to ensure all the DTCs are diagnosed and cleared from memory.

The BCM detects that the ignition is ON and sends the appropriate power mode message to the other modules. Therefore, the BCM must be connected to the DLC for any other module to communicate with the scan tool.
When the class 2 serial data circuit:
is shorted to ground
is shorted to voltage
The following DTCs may set:
U1300
U1301
U1305

joefarmer 02-05-2005, 03:29 AM Hm... Thanks for the info. It appears that the PCM doesn't think there's an issue since there's no codes thrown on the truck. The quad can read the DTC's (option 2 on the quad), but it fails after reading the VIN and "unlocking PCM". I'll see if I can trace the serial data wire back to the PCM. The other option is that this truck's PCM is corrupt? How much is a replacement PCM?
Thanks again!

Mackin 02-05-2005, 06:45 AM Which version?
If the truck runs "stock" there is nothing wrong with the ECM. Follow the instructions and remove the proper fuses prior to loading. Make sure the cord is attached to the tuner also correctly. If that doesn't work return the tuner.
Caution to the wind it's NO FUN IF THE TUNER STORES STOCK DATA AND WONT RETURN TO STOCK. Had it happen to me.
Don't play unless you have options with a defective tuner,if it is.
You will have a truck that WILL NOT RUN and some explaining to do at the service desk.Tech support from the manufacture (tuner) will be worthless at that point, reminded me of a circus.
Run around the truck 3 times ,blow the horn, flash the lights, bang on the dash see if something came lose.
Your checking the Diagnostic Port for lose connections?Seems your heading in that "directed" direction from Tuner tech support.
Max Payne 02-05-2005, 01:45 PM I had a Bully Dog Power Pup that did the same thing you are talking about. It was a bad Pup, I exchanged for another and all is well. You have a bad programmer. The one I had had a visible bad spot on the circuit board inside.
bigblackdmax 02-05-2005, 07:11 PM This is the second programmer that has done it. The first one I sent back and they sent me this brand new one that does the same code, so I am pretty sure it is not the programmer.
dpower 02-05-2005, 09:18 PM I am with max power...disconnect evrything thats aftermarket....you don't have an aftermarket radio do you?
on edit: Didn't see that has already been adressed...prolly a bad tuner but you have already got a second one? Maybe an entire bad batch of tuners? Ask if anybody else has had the problem recently next time you talk to qzilla.
bigblackdmax 02-06-2005, 04:27 PM I just put the quad on a friends truck and it worked fine, so I know its not the tuner. I also took off all my aftermarket stuff. Now I don't know what to do:eek: !!!
Max Payne 02-07-2005, 12:56 PM Are you sure which programming is in your truck? Maybe the tuner doesnt recognize the file in your truck?
