: Whats the deal with stacking??

I have been into the diesel scene for about two weeks as I am expecting my 05' LLY in the next week. During that time I have focused on the transmission as being the first area to spend the money on as it has it's limitations when dealing with increased power over stock. I am trying to get the real deal on the programmers. As a fuel injection performance tuner I am used to having total control with the PCM and have always pushed away from generic flash programmers. The diesel performance industry seems to use them quite a bit. The Edge Attitude w/Juice controller is one that am was interested in using. It is my understanding that this unit is NOT a programmer but real alters the signals sent to the PCM from certain sensors. We use a device on the LSx cars but it's called a Mass Air Flow Translator. The programmers are true "flash" programmers and truly change the program. Only problem is that from one truck to another they all like different timing and fuel maps for peak performance. This is why one guys got big gains and one guy got minimal. The stacking sounds like you load up a "flash" program (we'll call it a baseline program) and the Edge unit when combined gives you some flexibility to tweak the baseline program at your finger tips. Is this a correct assesment of stacking???

Hopefully some of you "stackers" can chime in and elaborate on the subject and offer suggestions or experiences.

Thanks!

Howard

Thanks for your honesty and complements! The Nova is quite the project! Hope to have it completed by the 05' SEMA show!

So far stacking the LLY is a hit and miss kind of thing.

In general, you run an uploader that modifies the data tables in the ECM, and then run a harness box that also modifies the signal at the harness.

I've had mixed luck stacking. Usually because the harness box will defuel and override the programming. If you could get a harness box with no defueling, it would probably work.

Stacking is not an exact science and takes several trials to get them to run right. The only one I have been able to run flawlessly is the PPE Xcelerator/Enforcer. However, they were made to be compatible with one another. Everything else I have tried has had a hitch or two or three or.............

Is that a flash programmer and a PCM altering setup? What's the enforcer?

Enjoy the new Z06. It's one helluva car.

The Xcelerator is a programmer and the Enforcer is a harness box.

The Xcelerator is a programmer and the Enforcer is a harness box.
Can you please define a "harness box"?

A harness box plugs into the large wiring harnesses on the drivers side of the engine. They read the signals in, then modify them.

Pat, thanks for the information you gave me today. So a Edge controller would be considered a type of "harness box"...

Yes....the edge is a harness box.
