I have a 04 lly 8500 miles only on cold start it will squeal about two seconds after the engine starts. Anyone else having this problem?

yes i just noticed it this week. i have no clue what it could be.

I have had multiple Chevy's. I believe the squeek is from the power steering pump getting going. As far as I know this is a normal condition.

FWIW, I have had the starter drive squeal after engine fire-up on GM gas engines until it dis-engages from the flywheel. Dry armature as I recall. Don't know a thing about the starter arrangement on a DuraMax so I don't know if this will apply there or not......

this is a problem with the power steering bracket IIRC, theres some information on this site about it and the exact problem as well - the fix is taking it in to the dealer and having them fix it. whats happening is that when its cold that bracket is tighter and closer to the belt and will chirp til its warmed up and backs off. Do a search or look in the tech / problem section and you should fine the ticket info

They my have a problem with the power steering but this noise is still present with the belt removed.

I think mine is doing the same as yours but the squeek is only when its cold and only last for about 1-2 seconds.

i have the samething a little squeal when it is first started. i don't think it is the power steering. at least to me it isn't like a power steering type of squeal. it all most sounds like the turbo but i don't know for sure.
