I have just recently purchased a rear clearance light to go on the back of my HD and noticed it had a short piggy tail on it. I was thinking about just trying to tap into my license plate lights to make it work but I wanted to see what you all had done to get yours to work. All info on the install would be greatly appreciate. Thanks!

I tied mine into the wires for the trailer plug. Here are the colors for the wires.
LT GRN - Trailer Backup Lamps Supply Voltage
BLK - Ground
DK BLU - Trailer Auxiliary Supply Voltage
DK GRN - Trailer Right Rear Turn/Stop Lamp Supply Voltage
RED - Battery Positive Voltage
BRN - Trailer Park Lamps Supply Voltage
YEL - Trailer Left Rear Turn/Stop Lamp
You can find great wiring diagrams at http://www.gmupfitter.com
Here is what I put on the back of my truck.

I got it on ebay for $65. Search for "line of fire". It runs with the running lights, brightens up for the brakes, each half blinks with the corresponding blinker. I really like it. The picture doesn't do it justice. It looks great at night.

I have them on my truck and yes they are the best. Vary cool
The license plate light harness works great. If you want to use the plug, Tony says to take the plug apart so you don't have to drill such a big hole. Nip off the 2 locater tabs to. 3 holes to dril l= 2 screw holes and the wire hole. There is a lot of info about this topic, do a search or scroll to the bottom of the page there is "like" topics displayed. Hope that helps some;) I have just recently purchased a rear clearance light to go on the back of my HD and noticed it had a short piggy tail on it.
