This past week I made a 1000 mile round trip to OK. I was pullin a 14k lb fifth wheel with my Banks on level 3. On one hill going to OK my tranny downshifted really hard and at the same time made a loud popping sound. It threw a po735 and po700 which are tranny slip codes. On the way home the same thing happened. Until now I thought it was my tranny starting to go out so I was preparing myself to buy an ATS. The more I read and talk to people Im starting to think that the popping sound I heard was the truck defueling and this caused it to downshift at the same time and somehow slipped my tranny. Im not sure yet if I think this is banks related or a tranny related problem or a combination of the two Everybody I talk to say its heard to ruin an allison with the Banks only. I know my EGTs were somewhere around 1200 before this happened. Any advise would be appreciated.

i was told bank defuels around 1300egt so maybe that what happened may try level 1 or 2 might keep egt down or get pda and change the defuel temp safty feature

You will always hear that Banks or Edge products will protect your transmission through their slippage detection. I don't buy in to the "slippage protection" crap myself. I, personally, had the Edge and it toasted my transmission on level 3. The slippage protection is a great marketing idea....however, I don't believe it works and over time, the trans will fail. The nay sayers will chastise you for towing on level 3 instead of using level 1 or 2. Just my opinion.

I agree with you too Kodiak, I think the slip detection could only pick up a slip after the fact, and this may be the case in my situation too. I just think it defuelled before it slipped, which I'm really not sure how that would happen with power being cut from defueling.

And the reason I bought the chip in the first place was to pull. If I have to turn the chip down to pull I'm just going to bite the bullet and get the ATS then I can pull in level 5 and not worry about it.
