This seems to be a common problem. What do you want for $30-50K though, a tailgate that works? The tailgate on our '83 C30 worked fine until the hinges completely rotted away, it still latches though!

I had ro readjust mine so it would open without cranking on the handle. You may have to do the same.

Maybe we are talking about two different problems? I do not have my truck with me right now, but I think I adjusted the pin with a torx bit and a ratchet.

Good luck,

i dunno what problem im having on my 04. it seems that the tabs that slide out when the latch is closed dont move. i took it apart the other day. and found that the rod that opens the tabs is reall hard to pull back. dunno what to do.

i have the same problem w/ mine, maybe some lithium(sp) grease from time to time will help, or maybe even graphite in a tube.

I'm pretty sure that's for the older trucks.

Yes, a little lube goes a long way. Either spray white lithium grease or WD-40 in a pinch. Spray where the finger comes out of the hole. And, do all the door hinges and latches while you're at it.
