 After 140mi of interstate driving, SES light came on. Took to dealer for diagnosis. Results were: Scan test codes, PO700 TCM
Code P1860, TCC Solenoid
Dealer Cleared code and advised me to drive to see if light returns. 34mi later, light returns. Dealer informs me to bring back vehicle for further diagnosis.
The only thing I notice is that it is taking a little longer to shift to overdrive.
Can someone please assist me so I have my s*** together when they tell me what is wrong.

TCC solenoid - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid
When engaged it "locks" the torque converter = no converter slippage.
When the TCC engages you may *think* that it just went into OD, but it didn't (you just stopped the coverter from slipping). I wouldn't worry about OD not working. TCC solenoid should be a straight forward part change. And you get a pan full of new tranny fluid to boot.

http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23449I posted on both boards at about same time for better exposure. I wasn't trying to get a second opinion, just multiple opinions. If I have offended anyone, then I apologize. I am just an individual that likes to get a variety of information so I can go in armed and ready. If I wanted one opinion, I would just let the dealer handle it.

Nothing mechanical is exempt from failure no matter how well it is built. The Allison is still a stout unit and the reason I went GM for my diesel truck.

After further researching this problem it dawned on me what my course of action should be. If the SES light is illuminating due to a tranny problem, then maybe there is an emissions issue. After READING the 2001 Light Duty Truck Warranty And Owners Assistance Information booklet, the TCC is covered under my emissions warranty. (pgs. 17 and 22-24) After pointing this out to the Service Mgr at Pine Chevrolet in La Porte IN, he immediately called the District Service Mgr. He had to do some fighting, but the outcome was good. They paid all but the $100 deductable. GM said that the TCC on the Allison is not covered but will honor my request. On pg 13 of the booklet it says, "NOTE: Some of the above componets may also be covered by the emissions warranty with no deductible." I didn't want to push this issue figuring I got off pretty good. Rick at Pine did a super job of taking care of me. I purchased the vehicle there on a GM Supplier discount. In addition, any vehicle bought at this dealership gets free lifetime oil changes to the original owner. On a diesel, you just have to pay for the oil filter. I can't do it myself for that cost.
Just to let everyone know, I did my homework and politely told Rick that I was going to use the Customer Satisfaction Procedure (which is outlined on pg 28) to rectify this problem if GM denied my claim. I don't know if Rick told his boss that, but maybe he conveyed to him that I did my research.
