how many of you are running JUST the EGR blocker plate and not setting codes.

I'm gonna guess that the answer is going to be : NONE

If I understand the system correctly, once you block off the EGR the ECM is going to know and a DTC will be thrown (but not necessarily a SES light illumination). That's what the Fingers Stick is all about - to fool the ECM into thinkning there is still air flow thru the EGR when the blocker plate is used.

Do you mean - How many of us are not getting a SES light? If that's the case, I did a poll awhile back, most Federal Emission trucks don't have the SES light up when blocking the EGR....so the answer will still be NONE.

trying to find out if Federal Emission trucks actually need the Fingers Stick after blocking the EGR.

You'll need it if you want to keep DTC codes from being thrown but you probably will not get a SES light w/o one.

Helpful??

To Whom this may apply,;)

I have the blocker plate in ...... No SES light :) ..... But I do/will show codes if a Tech 2 is used. You will only need the Fingerstick if the hidden codes are a concern. Eric(dmaxalliTech) is a personal friend (for which I thank the Gods), and using just the plate was a concern of mine. I should say though, According to Eric the plate will work all by itself. So now........., NO concern..... If you'd like to PM me, I'll be happy to talk......... :grd:

P.S. EGR can be plugged or unplugged......

You know more about what the ECM is doing that you would like to share?

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/Nonono.gif I think I detected a little attitude http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif, and not of the EDGE type.

If I knew more, I'd be the first to tell. I'm just going by what dmaxalliTech (ERIC) told me when I asked if I would experience any problems by not installing the Stick. His answer to me was no. I don't care about hidden codes. I have ERIC do everything needed to my truck. So he obviously knows my truck inside and out. How lucky can a guy be when it comes to having the best Tech around?

I have to say...... It's no wonder more Members don't post, when one of the contributors come off as being a smarthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/censored.gif and want to belittle another.

I was just telling MY experience to date....I've had no problems so far not using the Stick, and unplugging the EGR with the blocker plate.......Maybe I will, but until then I'm happy. Seems to get a little better mileage and cooler temps are obvious........

I might add I was very impressed with all of your hard work and contributions for everyone here.

I'll just sit back and read now....

FWIW, you didn't give a personal experience. Only quoted Eric, and out of context at that. I was kinda hoping there was more info on what the ECM does when the EGR is unplugged or blocked. To date, info is slim.

What I know is:
If blocked, the ECM will set codes 401 and 405 after a failed function test as well as stop using the EGR till it passes a function test.
Unplugging will set additional EGR valve function codes.
What remedial actions the ECM does is very unclear. At least to me. I would love to look inside and see the code and put this part to rest.

There have been many reports of all kinds. Better gas mileage, faster spool up, ...... from blocking the EGR, unplugging, and blocking/Sticking the EGR. They are way too inconsistant. We need more detailed personal experiences. Though I respect Eric's opinion, I/we want to know YOUR results.

MiDmax - FWIW I don't think fingers was trying to ruffle feathers..He's a guy that's always thinking and he puts a lot of time into his ideas (hence the overwhelming success of the "finger stick" For whatever reason, no two LLY trucks seem to be alike...My exhaust without converter doesn't throw any codes (no SES light, and no stored codes without light either) Yet, some guys that have the same truck with the same emissions and same exhaust throw codes.... Same deal with the EGR unplug...Some guys can just unplug the EGR and no codes will be set, my truck happened to set codes......
At any rate, if you're happy with your setup, that's cool.....And, if you ever get tired of the codes that are set, but not seen, you have a way to get rid of them because of fingers.....

Kenny and I have talked about this and its hard to get a reading on posts, but our conversation was basically if no lights come on, he isnt worried about it, even if the codes are stored. No intentional slam towards the Finger stick and I have told Jon many times how nice it works. If Kenny's light comes on, he knows I have afinger stick here and waiting. I've installed these and it fixes it, peroid.

Hugs and we are all friends again.
