: Replacing front seats?
DMaxEnvy 04-02-2008, 11:47 PM Hello all,
I have an 03 Sierra CC SB DA with LT trim. The front seats are 40/20/40. I ordered this truck and was dissapointed to find no adjustable lumbar support (which my 01 had in an LS trim...go figure). I have just dealt with it, but now, sproing! What lumber support I had is not gone (broken wire in the seat). I would like to find a couple of seats from the junkyard with all the bells and whistles and install them.
Anyone done this? What issues did you run into?
Thank you in advance for your help/suggestions.
heymccall 04-02-2008, 11:51 PM '99 to '07 Classic all interchange. Just pay attention to plug style, especially power seats. Or a good upholstery shop. They're still out there. I've got a good one down the street.
tomrex 04-02-2008, 11:52 PM Should be a bolt and go. I did a junkyard swap with a cloth Tahoe I had. I put leather in it. All the power stuff, lumbar, and heat. A few wires, and bolted them up. As long as you stay with the same style seat (same body style) you should be good to go. Fairly straight forward.
nekkidhillbilly 04-03-2008, 08:05 AM you wont have the controls or wiring for power in a manual truck for the 8 way power seats but other than that its a simple swap
DURAtotheMAX 04-03-2008, 04:46 PM How did you get an LT without the bucket seats???
DMaxEnvy 04-03-2008, 10:05 PM OK, I missed a letter, the trim level is 'SLT', not 'LT'.
The 40/20/40 seating in the front is not really a bench, but two buckets seats with a center seat/console. The console folds down and has storage when not using the center as a seat, folds up to make a third (child size really) seat.
I ordered this truck this way. The driver's side seat has power (but not for the reclining control...go figure). I thought I had ordered it with power seat on the passenger side, but I did not notice that it did not have power until after I had taken delivery.
tomrex 04-03-2008, 10:34 PM I hate when that happens!! Now, how the hell did you get an SLT without two power seats and leather? I thought SLE was the cloth one without lumbar in 03...
DMaxEnvy 04-03-2008, 10:40 PM I do have leather. But only one power seat and no adjustable lumbar support. How? Beats the heck outta me. Guess I was too excited to climb into my new truck and drive off into the sunset :o::D
85,000 miles later (a dent or two and lots of stories), I really love the truck and don't want to part with it...just fix it and see how many miles I can get outta her!

Do you know if can install front ds/ps seats from an 03 into an 06 gmc truck? I have the noise problem with mine.
nekkidhillbilly 04-07-2008, 04:46 AM How did you get an LT without the bucket seats???
you can get a leather bench lt or slt in anything besides the reg cabs
the red one at the other dealer in town was my truck to a tee except color and it was a lt with a leather bench
in 99 you could get a reg cab lt also
DURAtotheMAX 04-07-2008, 09:26 AM any pictures of the interior? Im just really confused because when you option the SLT package, you CANT get a bench seat. It makes the 12 way bucket seats a mandatory option.
DMaxEnvy 04-07-2008, 11:28 AM Well, I don't know what to tell ya. I am looking at the window sticker here (yep, I put it in a file) and it has listed 40/20/40 bench seat (I still don't know why they call this a bench seat, it realy isn't...) and the SLT decor, which for seats includes front leather seating surfaces and power driver seat adjuster.
I do know I had to take some stuff I didn't want with the SLT including Onstar, foglamps, etc.
As I mentioned earlier, I ordered this truck in early 2003. Maybe when ordering you can pull stuff the dealers don't normally order for their stock?
richterscale 04-07-2008, 07:10 PM Sounds like your truck is very similar to mine. Basically it is an SLE with leather, yet because of the leather gm put SLT stickers on it. Mine has the SLT stickers on the sides, yet it is a bench with only the drivers seat power, and no heat or memory.
I to would be interested to know if I could swap some full feature buckets, perhaps Denali, into it and get them to work.
DMaxEnvy 04-07-2008, 07:14 PM I am right there with you RS! My wife has an '04 LT Suburban with the captains chairs and all the bells and whisltes...as slow as these diesels heat up in the morning, a heated seat might be nice :D
Oh yeah, and that missing adjustable lumbar support. I am still ticked about that...my '01 with cloth had the adjustable lumbar support...sigh. The accountants must have got hold of the build sheets or something.
phatmat83 04-08-2008, 10:48 PM Converted my 03 Silverado CC LS to leather- power/heated/lumbar. I only had driver power (with manual back adj) to begin with, but the new seat plugs right in and all drivers side functions worked, except for heat. Passanger will require your own wiring (try to get the plug from the donor truck) and can be wired in fairly easy (harness runs under carpet on pass side to drivers-just tap right into it), figure out which wires do what (used a 12v jump box) and go to town. If your truck isn't equipped with heated seats already, your body control module will NOT recognize the signals, and yada yada so get a couple switches and wire it them in as well. Best part of that is picking your own switch location!! Took me a couple hours and a few beers, but really not that difficult-especially once you realize a regular metric socket will work on those oddly shaped bolts! Hope this helps!
richterscale 04-09-2008, 12:06 AM So you wired in seperate switches to the heat? Is the heat adjustable like in the factory switches?
If this works, I may be in the market for a nice set of Denali seats.
DMaxEnvy 04-09-2008, 12:50 AM Hmmmmmmmm.....all the bells and whistles. :thumb:
I was afraid the heated seats would not work well if not originally in there because of the body module. So is all this computerized stuff for things such as seats really progress? Just wondering...
DMaxEnvy 04-09-2008, 11:21 AM Phatmat: You have any pictures of your install for heated seats? I am assuming you have simple on/off switches (Single pole, Double throw). Just thinking about this a bit more.
DURAtotheMAX 04-09-2008, 12:07 PM wiring up the heated seats might not be a good idea. They are on a thermostat controlled by the DDM (drivers door module) and HSM (heated seat module). If you just give em 12 volts they can overheat and melt things...
Just because you did it and it "works fine" doesnt mean you wont have problems in the future.
JMO...
dmaxenvy- thats itneresting they call your truck an SLT. Maybe in early 2003 they made some changes, allowing you to get a bench leather seat in an SLT.

So I am wondering of the DDM won't talk with the seats because I don't have an HSM....

Don't know. I have seen a few rolling around here the same as mine. Maybe there was enough call for bench seats with leather. I got tired of picking the dog hair out of the cloth seats one hair at a time...the leather just brushes off, then a damp cloth and all is better! I still don't know why they call it a bench. They are buckets seats with a seat between them instead of a console that runs to the dash.
It may not have the million way leather adjustable seats, but it does have many of the other SLT trim options...even some I did not want. However, I have gotten used to Onstar and do use the phone while in traffic. I do wish I had ordered the XM radio. My wife's suburban has it and we really like it. The kids particularly like the XM kids channel. :)
richterscale 04-11-2008, 01:42 AM As far as I know, the classic GMC trucks up through the 2007 model year could be had with a leather bench, and when order this way, were badged as slt. Really, they were an sle with the leather package. It is sorta like my 2000 Chevy... it was an ls package, but it had leather bench style seats. I have also seen a lots of chevy trucks with leather benches, but they are always the ls model until the started the lt1, lt2 etc trim levels in 06.
Dura...., is there a way to get the heated seats to work in a truck not originally equipped with them, or is it more work than it's worth?
MarvelFan 04-11-2008, 12:47 PM look at suburban seats... they always had the most options
