I have been reading a bit on the difference between gasoline and diesel turbos. From what i have found, it seems gas turbos take more abuse than diesel turbos (higher average egt's, faster rpm).
Does anybody have any comments on this issue? Would there be any problem running a gas turbo on a diesel engine? Perhaps on a compound configuration as the small turbo? I know they would have less psi and air volume, but from what i have read, they would spool very fast.
I'm just tossing some ideas around, so any comments would be appreciated.

My cousin has a 2002 z71 and had a turbo conversion by stp on his truck. Weird setup....the turbo was next to his fuel tank as well as the air filter??? Its LOUD as hell but sounds awkward not a whistle like we would here more raspy and so much air flow with the higher rpm's. He is only pushing 5 lbs. with a boost controller. Unfortunately after it was installed they failed to mention he must run premium for now on haha....

it doesn't matter what fuel the engine runs a turbo doesn't know the diffrence.
The housings may be diffrent based on RPM and displacement but I have seen many of the same turbos on gas and diesels especially the T3 turbo found in many cars from the 80's and early 90's It was used on 300zx's, Mustang SVO's, Mercdes 300SD and probably a bunch of other vehicles.
The newer GT37 and Gt40's are used on Gasoline and Diesel vehicles

i know a guy who took a turbo strait off a tractor (BIG turbo) and welded it into his exhaust housing on his civic. runs like a raped ape at like 8 lbs

Run 30psi into a stock gas engine and it will cease to function very quickly.
IIRC, turbo'ed gas engines need a BOV to keep from bakring the turbo every time you let off the gas while accelerating (i.e. when shifitng).

Untrue....depends on the car and motor....I ran 28psi on my stock STi motor with a GT30r setup

I ran 34 psi on a daily basis in my old eagle talon. scrappy little bastard. of course it was all done when i could get 101 octane at the pump. =)

You may have but you were running race gas and or methenol/water injection and prolly arp head studs and tunning and not to mention your motor was designed for a turbo unlike a civic.
