Okay, I picked up a 1995 K1500 6.5l TD with "S" engine from an insurance auction. When I bought it the pmd was unplugged like they had a remote mounted pmd installed. I plugged the pmd in and got the truck started, starts right up, but idles at 2100 RPM. Runs for about 20 sec. then dies. Could this be simply a PMD issue, or is it most likely a more in-depth problem. I tried searching for answer but couldn't find it. Here is the checklist:

0. Describe in detail the problem you are having. Please be as descriptive as possible.
Above
1. Does the engine crank, or 'turn over'?
Yes

After start up 20 sec. or so (Idles at 2100rpm)
1g. If Stalling, do you notice loss of dash or instruments?
Do not notice dash loss
1.1 Lift pump test (http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39350)- describe results
I don't think lift pump is working, won't idle correctly to test.

I'm waiting on a new PMD myself. Similar issues only mine won't fire at all. Be patient, read the FAQ pages, the numerous other stalling threads out there, follow the many links on the Diagnostic list to glean additional information, and you'll be up and running just as soon as advice and parts arrive. Hang in there, these things are a blast and very reliable. I've put 15000 on mine and been coast to coast to coast with mine in a little over the year and only now have had a real issue.

Any ideas? Should I just get a pmd and hope for the best?

If you plan on keeping the truck for a while you will want to get a remotely mounted PMD anyhow, Most highly recommend Heath Diesel's)

So i would say yes.

Check the front mud sheilf for holes as if someone had a PMD removtely mounted. they probably said screw the repo-man or whatever reason it went to an insurance auction, and took back their PMD for their next 6.5!

Hmm. Now the truck won't start at all. I am getting a new pmd w heat sink and remote mount. Hopefully that was the cause of the high idle etc. Is there any way to test the lift pump and ops with out the engine running? I think I could test the lift pump by just hooking 12v to it and seeing if it runs. But I imagine it needs to be running to test the ops. Any one know? Thanks

It was an insurance auction, the other pmd was mounted on the upper intake screws were still loose from removal. I will be mounting it in the bumper.
