I just changed out my spin-on Allison filter at 8,600 miles (yes, I know...3,600 miles too late). The magnet wasn't overly fuzzy, but the color of the fluid surprised me. The fluid that drained out with the filter change was dark purple in color. That's right, purple! Not red, not brown, not black...purple. What gives? I have yet to tow anything, the fluid level is not low, I have no power add-ons, never limped the tranny and the fluid does not smell burnt. This is the factory Dex III fluid. The warmest tranny temp I've seen to date is 150. Could me not changing the filter out at 5,000 miles like it should have been caused the fluid to discolor? I'm baffled... :help2:

mine was a dark cherry color......maybe purple depending on how you look at it?

Mine was purple also, just got the truck and it has 8,300 miles on it. When I checked it I thought this seemed strange. So I took it to the dealer and they said some are that color and not to change it until 50,000 miles.
