I was wondering what changes were made to the 2005's over the 2004's. Not the big stuff like the new hood on the chevy's and the power increase but the little stuff. Like, I heard for instance that you lost the ability to program the doors to not automatically lock? Is that true? I also heard that you lost the instant fuel mpg calculator function on the DIC....is that true?

What little stuff has been gained?

Just wondering basically what was gained and or lost comparing a 2004 LLY to a 2005.

My doors auto-lock. I can program with the DIC either in gear, with speed. They also auto-unlock, in park, key out, driver only, or off. The instant MPG is no biggy. What is also gone is the driver set up via remote. As in seat, mirror for driver #1 and driver #2 with the remote. They did add the high idle on the DIC.
I'm sure there are other things also.

The 2005's do not have the business odometer anymore?

And there is no way to program the doors never lock, correct?

No business odometer. 2 trip odometers though. No (red)light in the crew cab doors, windshield tint is gone (I'm glad, wear sunglasses if it's a problem....duh!) There is no way currently to keep the doors from not lockinghttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif.

I know the 1500's went to a rear drum setup and scrapped the junk rotors they were having problems with. And went with a convetional parking brake design. They also went to an electric fan for the 1500's. My 05 Duramax has a high idle feature. Probably a few other features that I can't think of.

Thanks

05 vs 01 vs 02 vs 03- our 01 & 02 LS EC 2500HD D/A , power dr/pass seats, adj lumbar in seat back, shade on w/s, under hood lite, under dash lites, doors close right with a push not a slam, 03 no power passenger seat or lumbar adjustment, sounds "tinny" when you close the doors, no under hood/dash lites, still has the shade windshield, 05 2500HD been back 3x for the dr door not closeing right, 10,45,115 miles and due back next week now it closes but leaks:mad: , no power passenger seat or lumbar, underhood / dash lites, no shade windshield, Plus better hood:D , 05 3500 C/C, no power seat passenger, no lumbars at either seatCensored , no under hood/dash lites, no shade windshield. I wish GM would listen- work trucks don't need leather but we spend alot of time in them and power seat, lumbar would be nice, my Dually has evety option but leather and sunroof, I need the bench seat but after our 1st road trip yesterday I need the lumbar in my side and the wife nees some adjustments in hers:rant: other than that none of the trucks have given us any major problems and 2 of them get worked hard (sig), no injectors, 1 fuel pump and 2 trans switchs.

DON'T FORGET THE MISSING FRONT LICENSE PLACE BRACKET, NOW THE PLATE DEFORMS TO THE SHAPE OF THE BUMPER -:t I SENT AN EMAIL ON THE CHEVY WEB SIGHT LISTING MOST OF THE MISSING EQUIPMENT, I WAS SURPRISED 3 DAYS LATER WHEN A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP CALLED. IF OTHERS COMPLAIN MAYBE GM MIGHT!!! THINK BEFORE SLASHING THE EQUIPMENT IN THE COMPETIVE WORLD OF TRUCK SALES. I DO LIKE THE 05 OTHERWISE!!!

I just checked my front license plate mount (still have paper plates) it does have a plate bracket really cheesy plastic one but it has one. My right door or exteneded door has an air leak will be going back no water leak just a lot of wind noise:mad:

One thing I noticed on my 03 compared to my brothers 2005 is the heated seats control is better designed, less chance of accidentily turning it on,the buttons are more flush mounted onthe 05 compared to my 03 where you can easily hit the buttons .Not sure what the 04 looks like.

How about the OBNOXIOUS dinging if you choose not to wear your seatbelt. My 03 didn't do that and it annoys the holy hell out of me.

As noted, of the options for autolocking the doors, NOT LOCKING is not one of those options. Who knows what GM was thinking on that one.

Along those same lines, there is no excuse for removing options from the DIC.

Other than that, I'm quite happy with my 05 (except for the annoying, pesky, VERY loud serpentine belt chirp that I have at all rpm ranges).

My '05 has the red/clear lights in the drivers doors, and red refectors in the rear doors. Not sure what you mean by tinted windshield, but mine are lightly tinted, as are the side windows in the front. The rear windows are deep tinted. Ditto on the door locks.

hey guys. kind of a dumb question, but does the LS have the drive #1 and driver #2 thingy?

Im looking at getting a '05 2500hd LS ext Cab 8ft bed with the 6.0 w/ auto trans for landscaping and plowing. I would like the 8.1, but at an extra 3k its not worth it imo, I feel that the 8.1 is more for bragging rights than anything, but hey, what do i know  Thanks Guys. :ro)

You can reset the MPG on the DIC and get instant mpg on it for a little while.

My '04 LS has the driver 1, 2 readout. But LS has no memory for seats or mirrors, so its fairly useless.

I like my 05 grill. After 15,000 miles (14,000 from a just returned trip to Guatemala where I was arrested in Mexico by the Mexican Army - another story) I find the engine and truck are just as dependable so far as my 02, fuel mileage REALLY Sucks (9.5 to 13.2 where 02 equipped and loaded the same was 15.5 to 18.5 on same trips), aftermarket exhaust still doesn't fit right and bangs on the hangers, and 285 load range E tires will take a terrible beating at high speeds on rough rock Guatemalan roads and not show any wear nor damage, although they do hum. Truck was run harder than normal this year and held up very well, as did 02. Now ready for a 07 or maybe even a 06.

So the dinging NEVER goes off??

It dings 5 times every few minutes. So no, technically, it never goes off. And it is flat obnoxious that GM would do it this way.

Man, that sucks, I'm glad my 04 does not do that? Even in Park? Slow speeds?

jth7186
02-16-2005, 01:44 PM
It'll only do it in gear; but I am not positive about speed. I've only heard it when at or getting to speed, but that is because there is some delay before it dings for the first time. I guess it is possible that it has the same 8mph threshold that the autolocking doors have, but I have not verified this.

Hey jth7186,

I've got the same truck as you and am trying to decide what tires to go with. How do those 295s fit? No torsion changes at all? Any rubbing?

And I guess pics would be like the cherry on top...

Thanks.

Very easy to fix, look under drivers seat and feel around. There will be a connector coming out of the seatbelt harness at the right of the drivers seat at the bottom, unplug it. a lil tricky, small hands you might need. Never a ding or a light since.

I now know why my windsheild looks different in my 05 from my 03. No Tint....didn't really notice it but made the front windsheild look bigger. The Driver 1 and Driver 2 memory on the FOb sucks. I get in and forget to put me back to my driving position and have to stop again and put it in park. I have the exit function set. Anyone know if there is a way to re program the DIC for this?

No rear door lights no big deal....never back their anywase.

Yea they chopped some of our DIC off.Censored Gyped us out of a hood light. :( Offers driver's seat Auto Exit, but no Auto Return,DUMB DUMB DUMB. Steering radio controls only offer scanning up presets from beginning, no Tune Up/Tune Down toggle from where you're listening. No locking 1/2 sized center console. Potato chip thin windshield, got some crack driving it home,Censored Censored . Darn seat belt ding dinging. Can you believe rear door hinges are GLUED on?

It's funny I listen to all you guys and your gadgets... I'm happy that mine came with 4 tires and a steering wheel!! I have the 04' "work" truck model... no extras whatsoever. Manual windows, locks, etc... I can't even get a factory cd player in my truck, because the computer won't accept it!!

but it does have the DMAX/Alli and that is all I wanted!!! plus the regular cab/8 ft bed makes it faster!!

With the strength of glues available now I wouldn't worry too much about it. Seat belt should be worn anywase however, I did take issue with this same feature on the Crown Vic Police Interceptors...Driving around with no belt on and all you here is ding ding ding lol.

Hey Strait, if you were so happy with your truck "as-is" why the does your signature read:

Juice/Attitude Equipped. Custom Built 4" Aluminum Intake. Straight Piped again. Luverne SST Grill Insert. Factory Fender Flares Removed. JVC CD/MP3 Player. Uniden Bearcat CB Radio.

Not flaming, just curious we ALL like to personalize our trucks, that's what guys do.:grd:

You can just bet that GM had nothing to do with this and FED reg's had everything to do with it......probably accounts for some of the other stuff too.

Really? That doesn't sound very safe. I would've never noticed though (unless one fell off). What kinda Censored is that? Glue... geesh. Better tell my 2 year old to go easy on the doors

The glue that you see on the hinges is actually a sealant to prevent corrosive material from getting into that joint, in the end it is making your truck last longer!!! The hinges are actually welded onto the hinge pillars prior to paint in the body shop.
