: Dually in shortbed ?
1999Cobra 02-03-2005, 08:19 AM Sorry for what seems like a stupid post but I did try to resolve this on my own and had no luck short of calling a dealer and they know less than we do so here goes -
Can you order a new 05 3500 CC dually duramax in a shortbed version ??? I wasn't able to pull and spec it out that way on the Chev web site and saw nothing anywhere to suggest it's possible ...
Thanks,
Snake eyes
Lawnboy 02-03-2005, 08:30 AM Apparently there isn't enough frame space to bolt the overload spring receivers on a short bed. This is just one reason why you don't see any 3500 SRW or DRW short beds.
CADman_ks 02-03-2005, 08:59 PM I'm pretty sure that Ford had a dually CC short box at one point.
In fact, I saw one just the other nite in the WalMart parking lot. They're kind of different looking because the whole box is "extended" fender.

nosliw 02-03-2005, 09:01 PM are longboxes a dying breed? i rarely see them on the road anymore (even in HD trucks) and seems a lot of guys on here have the shortbed option..... might be me though
Tip of the Iceberg 02-03-2005, 09:26 PM This can get a bit confusing since the "standard bed (6.5')" is sometimes refered to as the shortbed. The only real shortbed I've seen lately was on a GMC 1/2 ton.
Lawnboy 02-03-2005, 10:28 PM To me, a "shortbed" has, is, and will always mean a bed shorter than 8' in length.
Maybe things are changing here with terminology, but a short bed still means a 6.5' bed.....the short-short beds are available on the 1/2 tons.
nosliw 02-03-2005, 10:34 PM yea <8' that's what i mean by shortbed too
Actually you could order the previous body style in a shortbox dually. I'm not sure if the pics were on this site or not. It was over a year ago I saw them.
Loki_nine 02-04-2005, 10:51 AM Who would want a shortbed??
Can't fit enough Harleys in the back of a "shortbed"
What fun is bike week going to be without enough bikes?
(yeh, that hitch is reserved for the trailer/boat - strippers love boats & working on naked tans)
Lennart 02-04-2005, 12:22 PM There are 3 lengths available, short (5'8"), standard (6'5") and long (8'). The short is available with the 1500 CC and the Denali. I like the looks of the standard with Quadrasteer option best.
cdhd2001 02-04-2005, 12:33 PM My 2500HD was a short bed. The new hauler bed is 7' long, best of both worlds for me anyway.
aka108 02-04-2005, 02:33 PM Length of box seems to be a local thing. See a large number on long boxes in some parts of the country and in others nearly non-existent. Don't think I've ever seen a short box dually.
GMC-2002-Dmax 02-04-2005, 02:38 PM Who would want a shortbed??
Me............the longest tool I put in my truck is a 6 foot level or a 3'x6' sheet of cement board...........no 2 piece driveshaft with a crew cab shorty either.........
It is more than enough room for my trade.

My CC SB has a 2 piece driveshaft.

There are several CC SB Dually Fords around here. The fender takes up the whole length of the box.
GMC-2002-Dmax 02-04-2005, 03:14 PM My CC SB has a 2 piece driveshaft.
It was my understanding that the CC's all had 1 piece driveshafts unless the bed was an 8 footer, then the 2 piece was needed..........
post some pics.........

Rich H. 02-04-2005, 03:49 PM GM only offered the short bed dually for two years that I know of.
1999 & 2000
I had a chance to get one when I ordered my 1999, but they said that mine would have been the first one made, & did not know when it would come in. I backed out, as I did not want the first one. Always seems like it takes a few to work out the bugs.
I wanted it to pull my 5th wheel trailer, thought it looked cool.:cool2:

I say short bed are a dying breed. Only ones I see that have them are the yuppies, with 2 dollar a gallon gas/fuel they be going back to the econo jap ****boxes. A short bed is usless for work. You might as well have a S-10.

I will take a few picks tomorrow. Carrier bearing with telescoping shaft/boot and ujoint are at the rear of the cab.
Maverick 02-05-2005, 11:47 AM I do remember the dually SB on the old body style. No SB with the current body.
My new 05' 1500 Crew SSB measures 5'9" on the inside. GM must use a shorter tape (5'8").
