Been looking for a power upgrade for my 03 D/A. At first, wanted the juice w/attitude. My friend has this in his 04 PSD 6.0 way cool. Anyway, saw that Banks has the Big Hoss package. Air and exhaust look equal to others. The Six gun looks okay, would prefer the juice. However, the speed loader looks a needed item for protection of the Alli.

Has anyone had experience with Banks six-gun and speed loader?
Banks also offers the techni-cooler with the Hoss package. I have found this kit for around $3K....whoa....w/o install.....

so far truck is stock (engine wise) w/40K miles:rolleyes: .
Thoughts please.

i have no experience with the banks. but i am a newcomer to the dmax from a pwrstroke. i run the edge/attidtude with 4" turbo back and i love it. My mpg has gained on the highway as long as my foot is out of it. on the back roads is a different story because in my area it seems like everybody with a improt to a 1/2 ton gasser thinks a diesel is a good race, ...........if only they knew before they were covered in a black cloud!!!

Hypertech or Diablo sport. Good power without ruining your tranny, no messing with wires under the hood, easily retuned to stock for dealer visits, corectable speedo's for tire changes. and the ability to read your trouble codes, if they go on that is, without spending 50 bucks for your dealer telling you what it means. Of course thats just my opinion. I had an Edge system and did not have good luck with it but others have. I was not the only one who had problems. Banks has their issues as well. Best bang for the buck, Hypertech, diablo sport. 330 to 440 dollar range vs. $8-900 range that u cant even use levels 4 and 5 without tranny upgrades.

You can use the level 4 and level 5 if you want to. It will just start to cripple the tranny over time.
Lets see $3000 for programmer/chip, exhaust, gauge, cooler, a few other little items, and I think a big head waste gate, or roughly $1300 for an Edge Juice with Attitude, and a stainless exhaust. Both have the same power output and protrection for the ally but the Edge gives more control and better monitoring and a better ability to remove the programer when you have to take it in to get fixxed.
As for the Hypertech I would not use this item since there have been too many replies on that it does not perform as discribed. Both the Hyper and the Diablo do have the ability to read codes and recallibrate your speedo which is a great thing but they both do not have the built in protections like the Edge or the Banks.
For an additional $400 you can add the Daiblo to the Edge for a great set up and still be under the $2000 range.

i have the hypertech. Only reason i bought it was for the speedo recalbration. I just bought the edge but haven't installed it. to be honest i'm not that impressed with the hypertech. The power is strong but it doesn't get it to the ground so you can't really enjoy it. Plus on another forum i heard alot of bad things about the hypertech. but like i said i haven't installed the edge yet so i can't really compare the hypertech and the edge. just my .02 cents

DA_MAXX,

Give us a call if you want, we can get you the performance of the $3000.00 + you mentioned you have looked at for literally thousands less. I would reccomend a Juice Attitude with one of our A pillar mounts and paint to match the factory interior color. The MBRP exhaust (325.00-737.00 depening on material you select) and the AFE Pro Guard 7 intake system. This is 135 or so HP at a total cost of as little as 1300.00-1600.00 or so depending on if you get dual or single exhaust in aluminized or T-409 or T-304 stainless etc etc.
This is a very common system we sell everyday and proven over time by the members of this site and many other too.
The J/A has Allison protection, EGT protection, and tons of other features too.

Couldn't be happier with my set-up. Banks 6-gun with speedloader, Banks exhaust and Volant intake.

I was very happy with my banks system on my d-max. I liked the de-fuel before shifting and transmission slippage monitoring. I think any kit edge or banks that offers the protection for tranny is probably going to be ok (assuming no codes generated). Banks never has given codes or no starts on my application. The only disadvantage is if it needs to go to the dealer you won't want to take the 6-gun out and unwire the torque converter lockup sensing wires and unwire the harness through the firewall etc. The edge system is fully mounted under the hood for easy removal. This assumes that dealer is not ok with power mods......and like everyone says when in doubt take it out.......my .o2 cents worth!

Banks 6 Gun w/Speedloader here. I am happy with this set-up. I got the 6 Gun Bundle which includes the programer, gages, air cleaner ( Not using ) speedloader, and stainless steel cat back pipes. $1680 from Banks direct to my door here on the east coast. That included shipping. Yea, maybe a little more money that the others, but I figure Banks has been doing this a long time, and they seem to research and test product before they release it. Might not have the hight hp/tq numbers some are getting, but it works well and she flies!:ro)

Banks has always been about staying within the safety limitations of a stock truck. Of course, the biggest limiting factor here is the Allison transmission. With their resources, they could develop the biggest powerhouse module out there, no question. But in reality, there is only a small percentage of the Duramax owners out there that modifiy their Allison. And when they do, yes, they can add the TTS Extreme. For a stock truck, I wouldn't recommend anything over the gun for hp/tq. I normally drive on level 2. Level 3 seems to run with a Hypertech 96hp. Level 4 is a hair faster than the Bullydog Powerpup 95hp. Level 5 runs with a Juice/attitude. Bank's reputation is what sold me on the 6-gun. They've researched carefully before releasing this product. Transmission monitoring, EGT backdown, Fuel rail pressure, turbo speed and a host of other vitals are constantly being tracked. I don't want ANY issues whatsoever after this addition, and so far, I haven't.

Thanks all for the replies. The ease of removal between the edge vs banks may be the deciding factor. I hadn't realized that Juice/Attitude had the built tranny protection as well. So there is no need for the additional box (speedloader).
I would admit the Banks has awesome reputation.

Almost everyone on this site will recommend the Edge Juice with Attitude. Awesome power, trans protection (can be turned off when trans is upgraded :ro) ) and guages built into the Attitude monitor. Best $700 I spent! :ro)

i haven't done any thing to my truck yet because i don't have the money but as soonn as i have it i am going to bty theedge juice/attitude for a couple of reasons 1 most people on this sight and others like it and don't usually complain about it 2 i want the ease on the all in one controler that is customizabel power levels and has all of your gauges in one complact place, so you donm't have abunch of gauges all over your trcuk 3 JUST BECAUSE thats what my mama usto say :ro)

Well the Banks kit will cost more, but I will say that I haven't had any trouble with mine yet. I've been very happy with the drivability on 3; It's a pleasure. As far as Edge goes there's lots of people that say good things about the power. The attitude is definately nice though, but Banks should be coming out with the PDA very soon. If you're willing to spend the money I don't think you'll be unhappy with Banks.
