It may be completely normal (because I'm a newbee to diesels), but has anyone heard the faint intermittent whistling sound that seems like it is originating from behind the driver's dash? It is most prevalent when the engine is at idle and while the truck is stopped. I'm not sure if it continues as RPM's increase because the engine may drown out the noise. Also, the noise can't be distinguished under the hood, possibly because of engine noise.
:help:

I have heard the whistling sound from the turbo (during acceleration) and I don't think this is it but I could definately be wrong?

Also, I've read a few threads from members who recommend draining the factory oil at or before 1,000 miles. I talked to a tech at the dealer while I was there on other business and they looked at me cross eyed and said there was no reason to change it till 5,000 miles. I have 1,200 miles on the truck now. I'm going to change it soon anyway, but I would like some feedback anyway. While I'm on the subject.... Is 5000 miles a good time to switch to synthetic. My local Amsoil rep said to wait till then to let the engine break in.

I have about 1400 miles on mine and as soon as the Fumoto valve gets here that I ordered last week I am changing all the fluids in mine to Amsoil. That list includes:

Oil
Transmission
Transfer Case
Front Diff
Rear Diff

In addition I will be changing the following filters:
Oil
Transmission (spin on)
Fuel

Hope this helps.

b gable,

Geez you must really love your truck, I know the feeling, but I just went to AMSOIL.COM and the cost for oil is really high. Is it that much better? Do you know of a place that sells it cheaper? PM me if you do. thanks
