Do any of you kn ow of a remote start that is designd for diesels? I like to wait a few seconds before cranking to allow for the glow plugs to get to where they need to be... is there a remote start kit that will turn the ignition on for a few seconds before sending a crank signal to the starter? and if so is there one you can program the run time so I can let it warm up for like ten minutes with out having to go put the keys in, after all that is the whole point right?

There are a large number of remote starters that have the capabilities you are looking for. Any remote starter that is designed to work with diesel engines has an input that monitors the wait to start signal before cranking the engine. The amount of time the engine runs without a key is programmable as well.

I purchased an Astrostart system from Max Power. You can PM him with your questions, he is very helpful.

Everybody on DP is all about the AstroStart. I wish I could find a dealer in SoCal - I'd be seriously considering getting one! If there isn't an AstroStart dealer, what's the next suggestion for remote start?

I'm not about to try installing it myself -- I'd Censored it up for sure!

Talk to Max Power, Tony, He carries the Astrostart & is the Guru with it's installation. Just ordered mine from him on Monday, expect it sometime next week. He's in Canada. Check this thread.

I would try a Clifford or Viper. They are made by directed electronics. (the same people that make the factory keyless entry remotes) I have the Clifford RS1.5. You can find the closest dealer for directed electronics by going to directed.com and searching by brand. There should be somewhere around 6000 stores nationwide that install their products.

The Clifford Matrix RS3.5 is what I have. It has the glow plug sense so it waits until the glow plug light goes out before starting. If you are going to get it installed by someone make sure they do a good quality job. Soldering connections is the best way to have it installed but you probably will pay more since it is much more time consuming. A lot of places use wire taps which IMO are sh**. If you don't mind a drive down to Chula Vista,CA I know a guy that does an excellent install for a good price. It took him 8 hours for the remote start, alarm and front window controlls. Of course he got hastled by the fire marshall that day so it slowed him down.

I have a couple of the Directed Electronics. One was installed by Best Buy, the other by Circuit City.

I had a CompuStar installed by BlueOx03; installation seems to be the most critical part of the equation. A good installer who solders the connections seems to be the way to go!

Almost ever remote starter on the market will do just that. Check out www.astroflex.com (http://www.astroflex.com) for one example. They wait for the wait to start light to go out and then they start.

Run time is adjustable from 4 minutes up to 40 minutes.

Can't beat the Astroflex or the tech support that comes with if you buy it from Max Power. Once you get it and take all the wires off that you don't need its only a couple hour job to put in.

Tony the batteries did the trick, it has not missed a lick since. Which model is the 2 way that was about to come out when I bought mine? It had a fob with recessed buttons.

MP, I have a 2106. Is it possible to upgrade to a 2-way without a re-install? I.e. could I just buy a 2-way transmitter and program it?

The Module and antenna have to be changed. We can work something out if you are going by.
