OK, I'm wanting to upgrade to the Torklift frame mount camper tiedowns but I've got a question that I just can't find online or the local rv store.

How exactly does the rear tiedowns attach to the hitch/frame?? Suppose to be bolt on with no drilling but looking back there I just don't see how/where it would go. I'm thinking my custom build mudflaps might be in the way.

any pics??

any personal stories pro/con about the system?

thanks

Hey Trooper,
Although I don't have Torklifts, I run Happi-jacks with a Lance 821 and they do just fine. How 'bout doin' Torklifts up front and just staying with Happi-jacks in the rear? Our bumpers are quite stout, unlike Ford and Dodge and Happi-jacks should do just fine. How big/heavy is your camper? Have you been to www.rv.net (http://www.rv.net) ? Check the truck camper section, lots of good info there. Some guys I know don't even rely on the rears saying the fronts are the most impotant.

You know where Chewelah is? Have an old retired work buddy there.

I've got a used set of bolt ons but don't know what brand they are. the rears are for a dually so I just used the fronts and had a piece of 1.5" square tube and welded 2 ears to bolt onto the frame since all the pull is up on the tube. the ones I have use longer bumper bolts and go in those holes IIRC, haven't looked at them in 4 years.

I've got a Lance 1191 and I just use the Happy-Jacks. They seem to hold great. I just can't back up worth shit!

Thanks for the replies. I got to thinking about it yesterday after I started this thread that why not just use the happy jack rear mounts and torklift front mounts.

I'm getting back into the pickup camper lifestyle after having been a camp trailer owner for a few years, then no camper the past couple :( . I bought a happy jack set last year but haven't put it on yet. After looking at it a couple days ago I found out they sold me the wrong one . Not for my size pickup (Of course I've moved since then and I'm not driving 400 miles just to take it back). The rear mounts are correct since they are kinda one size fits all.

I started some ebay shopping and that's where I saw the Torklift's. I really like the idea of not having hardware permanently bolted inside the bed of the pickup and nothing sticking out the sides when not in use. Camper is an 8 foot cabover so needing some super strong frame mount isn't really needed, I just really liked the way the Torklift fronts mounted on.

Chewelah?? Had to Google it to find it :D. I've never been north of Spokane

I have HappiJacks on my 11' camper. The only thing I don't like about it is the brace bar in the front of the bed. The bumpers on the front of the camper hang up on the bar when I try to take the camper off the pickup. Probably wouldn't be a problem on the flat but my driveway slopes and I have to raise the camper on an angle. The rear mount on the bumper is one thing I really like. I have thought about the Torklifts but it's not worth the money to change now.

I just installed a set of tork lifts at all four corners. The rear ones bolt on at the rear two bolts for the hitch. With the right tools, (air gun & deep sockets and a wobbly adapter) it takes between 5 and 7 minutes each corner to install the tork lifts. We didn't even get a sixer finished before we were done. . . . We have an 8.5' Fleetwood Angler and you can hardly tell it is back there with these mounts.

I had a set also (took them off & sold them cuz I sold the camper). As OR Mega Cab said they bolt on using two of the receiver hitch bolts (assuming you have the factory hitch). These bolts were bolted from the bottom direction as if you were laying flat on your back looking up into where the receiver bolts to the frame. There was also a third bold coming in from the side into the frame. This appeared to be a bolt used in securing the rear bumper. Good luck.
