I just gave my '05 it's first oil change. The oil filter WOULD NOT BUDGE...

Not until it had crumpled, folded, then punctured by the filter wrench... hmmm you gotta love that hot oil running down your arm... #Censored!

After MUCH effort, and grunting it bit by bit, this filter did not start to ease up until verry close to a 1/2 turn...
Is it just me :duh:?? Do they not oil the seal before install @ factory? Is there some hint I'm missing?
This is the 2nd time I've had a filter that would not give (last time on a gasser), and it sure can take a simple Sunday afternoon project and turn it into a real pain in the a$$.

It's pretty common. I have actually personally oiled the O-ring and still had a hard time.

I pulled my filter out this past weekend for the first oil change and the process was very smooth(with a filter wrench). :confuzeld

I had the same issue on my truck 2 years or so ago. It wasn't even the factory, but my freebie oil change from the dealer. Needless to say I had help from Spicer to get the old filter off and began to use Parker Super O Lube. Haven't had a repeat since, than again I don't torque the oil filter to the same amount as the lug nuts.

I think the filter can must distort a little with all that pressure. Mine have all been hard to get off. The first tiome I thought someone welded the damn thing on.Have a Mobil 1 on now and hope it will come off easier.

I think they have gorrilas put on the filters at the factory.

I oil the gasket and use a GOOD wrench. The fabric strap wrench kinds can crush stuff if its on there hard. I use one of the metal band type and never have a problem. One only does a few different size filters though, might have to get a few if you have a bunch of different equipment or cars.

My OEM filter and plug had blue locktite on the threads.

I have a hard time imagining this, mine was not a problem at all.

My OEM filter and plug had blue locktite on the threads. That does seem awfully hard to believe...

I'm going to have to take another look at the original filter when I get home...

Just did my first change last weekend and the factory filter took a little more effort than I'm used to needing, but certainly acceptable. I've always oiled the threads and seal, seems to make things slide a little easier the next time.

You think the 1st oil filter change was hard wait until you change the fuel filter! Same factory monster that puts the oil filter on with a 5' breaker bar (so it dosn't leak) puts the fuel filter on!

I've been using a big pipe wrench to take my oil filters off, it work great and doesn't puncture/mangle the filter either. Keep the jaws near the outer end of the filter.

My first oil change took a large flat head screwdriver thru the filter to get it off. Never a problem since.

I have changed the oil six times and still have blue residue on the threads of the oil plug. :cussing:
