I have a 2000, 7.3 and am having troubles getting it started after it sits parked or is just plain cold. It is cranking over pretty fast just doesn't fire for me. Only happens every now and then, not all the time. As you can probably see I am a new diesel owner.

Cold when it won't start?? I'm guessing maybe a Glow Plug Relay.. You can get it from NAPA for around $70-$75 Or you can go to Ford or International and pay more??
what would be my next course of action if that is not the problem?

I had the same problem and it was in fact the Glow Plug relay. I am having the problem right now as well. Where would this relay be located? I am thinking of purchasing a Chiltons.

The Glow plug relay is on top of the motor..in the back to get to it you must remove the cover on the top of the motor...there are two relays on the top on the motor that look identical the one in the front is to heat the intake air for cold morning starts tthe one directly behind it is the Glow plug relay..
Simple to change out..
I took this picture I hope this helps..

If for some reason the GPR is not the problem, your next check would be battery voltage.
I recently was involved with a 2000 7.3 that would not start. Crank fast all day long, still no start.
Batterys had dropped below 12V. It will never start if batterys are below 12v.

I would also regard the batteries as suspect. Esp. if they are original. Dunno where your at, but its cold here, that wont help any. Just sounding like its spinnin fast enough isnt a good indicator, It really needs the voltage. Also replace both, even if the other one is marginal.
