henry70,

My belt was making a lot of noise when cold as well. Took it the stealer, they swore nothing was wrong, but now it is quiet. I bet they lubed it or dressed it.

04 6.6 LLY Accessory Drive Belt Chirp Noise at Cold Idle - kw diesel squeak squeal pulley wear ac compressor bracket alignment power steering pump #PIP3138 - (Sep 15, 2004)

04 6.6 LLY Accessory Drive Belt Chirp Noise at Cold Idle

.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.<A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1549886#ss1-1549886" target=_blank>

Condition/Concern:

Customer concern may be a accessory drive belt chirp, squeal, or squeak noise at idle. The noise may be reduced or gone after the engine warms up. Important: It should be noted that a chirp noise on engine shutdown is normal for a diesel engine. No repairs should be attempted for this condition.

Early model 2004 C/K trucks, with a 6.6L LLY engine produced before June, 2004 may have an a/c compressor/power steering pump mounting bracket that is machined slightly out of specification. This bracket could cause a misaligned power steering pump. If the power steering pump is misaligned, it will force the accessory drive belt to run farther inboard on the fan pulley. <A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1549886#ss2-1549886" target=_blank>

Recommendation/Instructions:
<LI ="1">Follow the published SI diagnostics for drive belt chirping. <LI ="1">Verify power steering pulley is properly pressed on power steering pump shaft.(Use SI information for power steering pulley replacement.)
If no other concerns are found replace the a/c compressor/power steering pump mounting bracket with GM part number #97362175. The service brackets have been produced to the correct specifications.
Important: Please follow SI instructions for Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor and Power Steering Pump Mounting Bracket Replacement. Installation procedures and torque specifications are critical during this repair.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.

Took my 02 in to the dealer for making that chirp noise... They found the alternater was worn down, and the belt had some cracks in it.... replaced both, no more chirp.

Got my '05 last September. Had a belt chirp when cold from day one. They replaced the belt and so far, so good. No major chirping at 6600 miles.

Had "chirping noise" when first started. Dealer stated there was a service bulletin for this. Replaced belt tensioner. 2003 had about 20000 miles at time of replacement.
