Last weekend a budy of mine and I installed a Fabtech 6" lift on his 03 cc lb Duramax. It looks good at that height but I don't like how much wider the front track is now. It had to widen the trac about 2"/side. I want to lift my truck but I really don't want my tire sticking outside of the wheel wells like his do. He put some 35X13.00/18's (Nitto Tera Grappler) on and at least the entire outside row of tread blocks and some of the next row in are completely past the flair. I know he bought wheels that had as little offset as he could get. Fabtech also did nothing to remedy the pathetic steering link setup on these trucks. I put sleeves on my tie rods with 285's, I would have to do a whole new center link and ends, or maybe a crossover setup to drive my truck and not worry about anything breaking. (I'm kinda hard on my equipment, truck pulls and just general thrashing)

Does anyone know of a 4-6 inck lift that doesn't make the track any wider?

What about a solid axel swap? (I think they sould come with Dana 60's and sit 5" higher from the factory, I mean they are HD's right?, but what do I know)

These trucks and SUV's have a high center of gravity and will roll pretty easily when stock. Why make it worse or chance putting your bumber in someone's face in the event of an accident by raising the height. Man, that's lawyer bait.

pro-crap sells a kit that doesnt increase the track width, but like i said its CRAP!!! I believe that skyjackers kit does not increase the trck width but i am not sure

As far as your steering goes I dont think you will have a problem as long as you have SD's tie rod sleeves and maybe the center link, but I have actually wheeld my truck and have yet to break it with the sleeves on, before that I bent 2 tie rod ends, I was like you when I first got this truck, I wanted a solid axle like my dodge has, but you would be surprised at how beefy these frontends really are. Man, that's lawyer bait.because I dont like scraping my frame when i drop over a curb.

and i disagree about the roll over aspects that you stated, unless you try and do the slalom at 70MPH you wont have a problem. Mine is lifted 6" and I have never even come close to feeling like it was gonna tip over, even with my camper in the back.

wsucowboy: What do you not like about pro-comp? They have really improved on their lifts in the last few years. I had one on my old '00 2500 gasser and had no problems (except a bent tie-rod, which was due to some reckless rock crawling) For the price, i think their good lifts. just my .02

I'm thinking of saving some dough and just doing the Cognito 2-3" lift and pitman/idler arm support kit. I like my 285's.

I'll post a pic tomorrow of how much the tires stick out.

Maybe the money I save can be thrown twards the transmission fund.

I have just seen too many fail to be able to rely on them when the going gets rough. Trying to get them to replace a worn or broken piece that failed due to poor craftsmanship is harder than trying to make lemonade out of potato. Its ridiculous how they try and nickel and dime you and try to get you to say that it failed because of user error. JMHO, from what I have experienced and replaced.

with the front track did he do a diferent offset for the wheels that the rears? On the old bdy style trucks we lifted, you would have to run a different wheel offset to get the wheels to line up straight with the rears not being bugged out in the fronts.

that new lift from superlift looks good but it is only for the 1/2 tons so far. it would be cool if they made it for the bigger trucks.

Here's what it looks like, the Fabtech 6" that is.

The picture of the tire from the front is exaggerated a bit cause the tire is turned, but you can see how far it sticks out.

DieselsFanatic: Omaha, huh? I just moved away from there not long ago. Where'd you get your lift installed and what dealership did you buy your truck from? Expect any problems with warranty work if you need it?

I had a new '00 that I had Dillon Chevrolet lift for me before I picked it up new. Always had great service there and know the service manager pretty well.

If you go with a Straight axle your gonna be atleast 8", I believe it is, you can go with the 6-8 CST, I don't believe that they increase the track in front

I figured the track width extension just made it easier to justify to the boss (wife) getting a set of tough looking Bushwacker Flares.

that too):h

but it does help with stability, especially when you but an even wider tire on, it may throw stuff up on the sides of your rig, but its a truck!! what do you expect??

I have the fab tech 6". If you go with 8" wheels and 4 5/6 backspacing (call fabtech to confirm backspacing) the wheel will clear the spindle and fit in the fender.

Do not go with at 10" wheel. I did and totally regret it. Even going through small puddles of even wet pavement will cause water to be thrown all the way down the truck sides. It sucks. I can never keep it clean and I have to be careful when getting in for work, I have ruined 2 pairs of pants.

A buddy has the 6"cst and runs 9"x17 wheels and they fit in the fenders. The kit didn't increase the track. Also rcd kits don't increase the track.

Sorry but this is not true.

Foop,

I put it on in the garage, with help from a friend, took about a case of beer to install, and a box of doughnuts the next morning to check everything over. ):h

Dillion has 1 diesel tech up there (in Blair) and him and I butt heads. as long as I go straight to the top first (Blake), I've had decent service.

As far as the warranty, I wont take it there. They cry if you put 285's on without buying from them. I have always had good luck with Huber here in Omaha. They just fix whatevers wrong, and you can usually get same day service without calling ahead.

And for everyone else, It's hard enough to keep black clean, I don't need any more help getting it dirty from my lift sticking out the tires.

I thought on ORU's site a solid axel swap with small springs would only lift my ride 5.5". Maybe I'm wrong on that too. Sure wouldn't be the first time!:)

Put on big wheels (18s or bigger) with the biggest backspacing possible (not hitting the spindle...). With the normal setup (not lifted truck) 6 inches of bs are possible with an 18 inch wheel. Don't know about that particular liftkit. The smaller wheels (16s) will not clear the spindle with a big bs and therefore the track is increased much more than with bigger wheels and more backspacing.
