: BG Products used at dealership???

I just took my truck to the dealership today with 1,900 miles on it to get the oil and rear diff. fluid changed. For the rear diff fluid I was expecting them to use some "purple" fluid but they put in some product called Ultra-Gard made by MOA BG Products. The tech said it is very good stuff and it is synthetic. They also put in a Limited Slip additive which i did not think you had to have. Has anyone heard of this product? Is it good?

Also, when the tech was putting Rotella 15w-40 oil back in he also put an 11oz. can of BG Product in the oil. He said it is kinda like "slick 50". I have never heard anyone on this forum mention these products so I am just curious about them. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Oh BTW, my truck is an 05 2005HD D/A, Crew Cab 4x4 - i have not set up my signature yet.

Even slick 50 is not recomended for a low milage or not "broken in" engine.
I don't think an engine additive is worth using if you have a quality oil and reasonable service interval

 Are you sure you were at a GM dealership):h ? Limited slip additive. Absolutely not necessary.

Uninformed dealership. Ditto what trapman and Sollly said.

Welcome jflem, Sounds like you found a dealer that's wanting to make extra $$ at your expense that is NOT at all necesary. Like all comments made here, you just need quality motor oil and NO additives in the engine or differentials!! Just read all the good stuff on this website and you'll learn lot's of great stuff.

When should the first rear diff. fluid need to be changed?

When should the first rear diff. fluid need to be changed? After 500 miles. And no towing during those 500.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully, i won't need to go to the dealership for anything for sometime. I will do my own oil changes from now on but the first one was only 10 dollars so that is why i went to the dealership.

thanks again!!
