I had a low squeal sounded like a belt or idler. The dealer checked the power steering brkt and the idler same noise. we pulled the belt off and had the same noise. the water pump had a bad bearing , this was with low miles and the dealer had a whole shelf of bad ones.
replaced pump no noise for 25k

I had posted about the power steering bracket. My truck was in for "belt squeel" and a new belt was put on. I told them I thought it was the idler arm pulleys and the mechanic insisted it was the belt. The noise came back in less than 24hrs so they replaced the pulleys. I had another issue which ended up with a Mr. Bill Carnabelli(sp) getting involved. He was the Duramax Quality Manager for all of GM. He was looking at the vehicle history, saw the belt squeel issue and sent a new bracket. I had assumed the pulley was the fix since it had gone over a month without reoccurring. He said that they had several that were machined incorrectly get out and that the issue would return without replacement. My truck did it in June though and it wasn't related to temps.
