Sup ya'll, I looked over glow plug threads, but didn't see this answered anywheres..

just curious about the glow plugs and the indicator on the dash. First thing in the mornings I see the light as it stays on for a second at most, no biggie. My question is, I will see it in the mornings but hardly ever the rest of the day so I am wondering if maybe there is a problem or is this normal behavior that the glow plugs warm up THAT fast before each startup? yes it is an LLY and I know there is a new glow plug system, but I figured I would see the light every time I started the truck if even for an instant.

what do ya think? everyone else see the same thing? I have no problems, just curious about it

I believe it is normal. The lights will only be on if the temperature, internally, is not right. Sometimes you may be starting the truck and the gp may flash on and off, all you will see. The longest I have seen mine is maybe 3 seconds, but that was in 5 degree weather without the heater core beign plugged in.

cool, thats what I kind of figured, but wanted to make sure everyone is seeing the same thing. Being my first diesel I don't want to take any chances.

thanks

I agree my 2005 does the same.

It's exactly how mine works. Especially after the glow plug module was replaced. I don't see the pig tail except on cool mornings. Of course now I never see it due to the remote start.

Engine has sufficient retained heat to start by compression only. Glow plug only necessary when iron is really cold.
